Title: Hmmm...

Twilight - September 6, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
I think there should be a new rule, one against popularity contests and such. Why? Because some members get easly put down if they don't win/nobody likes them very much, ect.*coughmecough* And it could hurt feelings, or erupt into flame wars, or worse. o-o

Well what do you guys think?

Cyndaquil201 - September 6, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
Well, there hasn't been one yet, so how do we know it could start a flame war?

I don't think there should be a rule against this, unless someone starts one and it gets out of hand.

Zephyr - September 6, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
...Hm. That's a decent enough idea, as popularity contest are generally the start of flamewars. But, as Cynda said, we haven't had any thus far and we'd deal with one if it came up without having to write any specific rules about it. If one WAS created, it would probably be closed promptly because it's pretty much just flamebait anyhow.

...Besides, I'd win. |D

EDIT: Didn't see that until now. Yeah, locking it.

Kronakitty - September 6, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
I never liked popularity contests simply because I hate people being pointed out as "better than others". I guess it's ok on really huge boards, but...

Well, I see nothing wrong with giving it a chance, so let's just wait and see. :D

Why, that was my thread.... *sobs*

I can't even believe that everyone will lock that thread. I mean, if someone will resort to flaming, why are they even here in the first place? They don't deserve being here, they have to be banned, because they'll attempt to break the rules...

But that's just me. I saw this popularity game somewhere, but no flaming wars resulted. That's why I started one here. Yes, it ran smoothly, probably because of their incredible sportsmanship and acceptance of truth.

Although I admit that it's not as fun as other games. I'll just try something else. I hope it won't be locked again.

Just trying to see the maximum activeness this forum can have.

Cyndaquil201 - September 6, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
I don't see any reason that should have been closed. I'm pretty sure no one here would start flaming anyone else. Popularity contests don't always start flame wars.

Kronakitty - September 6, 2008 11:17 PM (GMT)
Um, popularity tests or whatever don't determine the activeness of a forum. I'm active, but I could care less about those things, so I won't participate even if I see it. :/

If you want to know who's active, then go to the member list and look at their last activity date, or take a look at the Online List regularly to see who's on.

Um, popularity tests or whatever don't determine the activeness of a forum.

It's not the point, Kronakitty. My point is that locking a popularity thread because of worrying too much about flame wars doesn't make much sense. That's all. It's not always the source of flaming. The one who flames, I think, doesn't have much sportsmanship than the rest. And again, if they resort to flaming, then they have to leave the forum, as the rules say that flaming isn't allowed here.

All I see here is that all of you worry too much. I cannot blame you all for that. Just voicing out.

It's just popularity games work quite well in other forums, active or not. If they are educated enough, the popularity game will remain a cool and fun competition. That's all.

Kronakitty - September 7, 2008 02:35 PM (GMT)
You missed my point.

I have nothing against popularity tests except my own personal preferences. Nobody is locking your topic.

Zephyr - September 7, 2008 07:13 PM (GMT)
I see you've unlocked it. Well, yeah, my decision to close it may have been a bit rash. Go ahead and post in it now, but if I see just a spark of flaming in there, it's getting closed.

...Aw, geez, we've developed enough drama in this topic as it is. o_o Sorry guys.

Kronakitty - September 8, 2008 09:17 PM (GMT)
^ I did not unlock it.

It's haunted! =O

Shadow - September 8, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
Hmm. I think something must have gone wrong when you tried to lock it, Zeph, because I never saw it locked, even after you posted saying it was. =/

IceMasterX - September 9, 2008 01:07 AM (GMT)
=O Jasp! A haunted topic! *pokes it*

Maybe I shouldn't have said anything in it... I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, and my feelings might be hurt if I didn't know how much everyone wuvs me. *shot*

... Jk... I might post in it or stay away form it from now on depending on my mood and whether I get nominated.

Bellomence - September 10, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
Haunted? Oh no!!! (JK.)

But... I saw it's locked. That's why I came to this thread in the first place and read all your posts. Now, I'm confused...
