Title: Electro's Sprite Shop

ElectroMan - September 1, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
I have been on the spriting community for quite some time, so I wanted to post some of my sprites and see if you like them.

You can request:

Request away!

Zephyr - September 1, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
Not wanting EVF to become another crass commercial spriting place, Zephyr intervened.

First she attacked the balls. No not those balls. The Pokeball sprites. They were simply recolored Pokeball sprites with amputated Pokemon parts superglued on. They were nothing sprites, and as to why someone would request them Zephyr didn't know, because they were nothing. So she zapped them with her Nothing ray.

Then she came upon the Chaos, all happily singing in their pit of copypasta and lameness. Zephyr took out her flamethrower and watched them run in circles, on fire.

Next she came across the devamps thrown against a wall because nobody, not even the creator, cared. She did a little upkeep and stuffed them in a dumpster. Then set them on fire.

Floating along, a swath of destruction in her wake, she encountered a clutch of eggs that seemed practically identical to the Pokeballs she had nothinged earlier. Since the poor things would never hatch, and were forever condemned to live out their pathetic lives as eggs with amputated Pokemon parts superglued onto them, she took mercy on them and blasted them with Nothing as well.

Suddenly towering in front of her was a colossal inferno! It roared at her, and she winced as she looked, despite herself, at the choppy yet deliberate pillowshading. This thing even had parts of the old sprite floating around inside it. It blew a tongue of flame at her, but she twisted to the side and blasted it with her freeze ray. Then, not wanting it to turn into an Ice inferno, she blasted it with her Nothing ray just to make sure.

After the Inferno disintegrated, Zephyr saw that behind it was a corral of retypes. She looked closely, but alas, they were nothing creative-- all fire types and ice types, with design barely accounted for. Still, she felt sorry for them, because they obviously had a little self-pride. So she took out her graffiti pen and graffitied them up. Hopefully that would provoke a little creativity among them.

Past the Retype corral was the Mix stables. The mixes growled as they sensed her approach, and tried to compose themselves to look impressive, but it would take a lot more than copypasta to impress Zephyr. Still, her burning hatred subsided, she consented to simply doodling over them with graffiti. Then she turned to seek out the creator.

She found him standing nearby, oblivious to the destruction she had wrecked upon his sprite shop until it was too late. She alighted, looked him in the eye, and spoke.

...Hey, you can't help the way you've learned that spriting should be. That's usually how it goes in big forums. But let me tell you, this mindless repetition you call spriting will be the death of it; ultimately nobody is impressed if you can make 100 Pokeballs or Chao. What people want-- and ultimately, what you want-- is for people to improve and move on to greater things. Ever tried scratching? No? Try it. I don't care if you're absolutely terrified of it; it's really not that hard, and it gets easier with more practice. So branch out. It's not the different "types of spriting" you can do (because ultimately there is only one type of spriting, and that's pixel art) but rather how you do it. And with that, I'll give you a request.~ How's that sound?

Hm, let's try a typechange. Change Pidgeotto to a Psychic/Flying type (so in other words keep it a bird, but change parts of it to psychic in whatever way you choose. And no, that isn't simply recoloring it purple and adding a jewel to its forehead. Think a little.)

((...Haha, I'm sorry. xD I'm not usually this harsh, and I'm glad you're spriting in the first place. I just get carried away sometimes I guess. Hope this was mildly entertaining to someone.))

The Chaos thing is actually pretty cute. :3 Hmm... I might request something later on.

Uh, Zephyr's just like that. I don't think she's trying to be mean, though. If she is then... D|

*after 20 minutes reading the above reply*

ok... i must agree with some of those comments...

And I already scratched sprite:

but i wanted to hang with basic spriting, but if you want, I can scratch sprite some stuff (not to complex)

And don't mind if I do that request later, I am sleeping here already

EDIT!

Here's the Psychic Pideotto: user posted image - Is it approved?

By the way, I was so tired, I thought you said Pidgeot, so today I made a Psychic Pidgeot. With my job done, I was going to post it here, but then when I read the word "Pidgeotto", I exploded.

...Wow, Zephyr, your post makes me want to write, or roleplay, or something... xD That was a very descriptive constructive critisism post.

I like the Psychic Pidgeotto; the edits you made are nice, especially the curling wing tips. I think it could use a little bit more psychic-y ness to it, but it's still nice. The gem, however, (and this is a problem the Pidgeot shares) doesn't look like it's part of the bird; try adding some purple shadows behind it, so it looks like it's actually in their feathers and blocking light from behind it.

How about another type change? I'd like to see a Ghost-type Quilava. =D

ElectroMan - September 7, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
thanks ^^

And fixed the gem's shadows a bit. hardly noticeable :<_<:

I think it's not "ghostly" enough... what do you think?

Zephyr - September 9, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
Hardly noticeable, maybe, but Shadow noticed theit lack, didn't she? =P Spriting is pixels on a really precise level, and even the most minute details are important in a good sprite.

For the ghost Quilava, maybe do a lil' more than just changing the flame to ghostly blobs? Maybe give it a spooky headthing like on Bannette or streamers from Mismagius or something; ghost Pokemon have more to them than just the ghostly stuff. And... maybe some color in addition to purple? White and light gray are both also very ghostly.~ I'd also reccommend dithering in the smoke (and that's more or less the only place you should dither xD;) to make it look more like, say, Gastly's.

Rather than having you fix it, though, I'll just request something different~ Make an evo for it? A ghost-type Typhlosion, and heed my advice and I'm sure it'll turn out great.

Here's a... improved(?) version of Quilava: user posted image
It's basicly recoloured. I also changed the eyes for a more spooky glare

I had this crazy idea to replace it's feet with spikes (like the ones in his tail). I think it came up nice.... Didn't it? ::(:
