Phoenix groaned. Annulus, her Dratini, was a little overexcited about a journey. Slithering all around, she finally settled on wrapping herself around Phoenix's neck, resting on her shoulders.
"You'll choke me," Phoenix gagged.
"Find me a better place to rest then!" Annulus retorted. "And I'm not going into that Pokeball!" she added. "I'm perfectly healthy!"
Before Phoenix could reply, Annulus jumped off her shoulders and went back into the house. She soon returned, dragging a tattered backpack.
"No way I'm bringing that!" Phoenix exclaimed. The pack looked revolting, though she reluctantly pulled it onto her shoulders.
Annulus, satisfied, crawled into the pack. Her head sticking out and not choking anyone seemed to satisfy Phoenix, though she rolled her eyes. Waving back to her house and her family, she set off... not knowing what would happen on the journey... "That just makes everything better," she said under her breath happily, setting off.
[Italics are basically all that Pokemon talk translated]
The streets were pretty busy with all the hustle and bustle of everyday life in Whitefeather town. Adults walked out of stores with large bags nestled in their arms, children ran amuck in the center square, Pokemon, both wild and tame ones, scurried to and fro underneath people's feet. It was a busy morning.
You noticed out of the corner of your eye an old woman diligently feeding Pidgey. She appeared to have a small sack of grain sitting next to her. How cheerful and happy, right? Wrong. As you watched, a rasping screech cut through the air. The old woman recoiled, startled. In that instant a Murkrow came sailing down from a rooftop. You thought it was heading for the bag of seeds, but unfortunately, it was not. It siezed one of the Pidgey in its claws and took of again, dragging the startled pidgeon behind it. The rest of the Pidgey responded with shocked coos and chirps, milling about in chaos. The old woman was equally surprised.
"G-g-get back here, you... you brute!" She cried after the Murkrow, who had alighted on a rooftop. At the distance you were at, you couldn't see whether the Pidgey was too badly hurt, but since there was no blood it clearly had not died yet. The old lady shuddered to her feet and, grasping her walking cane, began hobbling in the general direction of the Murkrow. You could clearly see that by the time she reached it, it would be far too late already.
So what do you do? The odd thing is, Murkrow aren't generally carnivorous. But perhaps this one was... meatarian or something. Anyhow, do you let nature take its proper path, or do the righteous thing and help the poor woman with her dilemma?
Phoenix ran toward the lady. "I can run and try to get that Pidgey back," she said, hoping her offer didn't offend the woman. In her mind, she knew waiting for an answer would cut off precious time, so, without thinking, she ran toward the Murkrow, hoping it wouldn't fly too high.
