Title: How'd you find out about Pokemon?

Shadow - May 6, 2007 11:29 PM (GMT)
*pokes title*

I caught part of an episode of the anime, a long, long time ago. It was the Christmas special with Jynx. My brother and I were hooked afterwards. People at school liked it too, and by the time my brother and friends lost interest, I was a true Pokemon fan. ^^

Zephyr - May 7, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
I was hooked right from the very beginning, when the cards were out in the US in Japanese. I was... five? Four? and in summer camp all the kids were collecting them. I got my first pack, and, well... it became very interesting. I followed it and collected the cards. By the time I convinced my parents to get my a gameboy, Pokemon Gold and Silver were out. I got Gold as my first game. :3

Cyndaquil201 - May 7, 2007 07:56 PM (GMT)
I have no idea. I just knew about it.

Wolf Link - May 8, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
Same here. I've liked it since I was 2 (1998). I'm not sure why, though...

blackchaosmew - May 8, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
I learned about it in 98 also, just because it was becoming a major thing at school.
But now it's apparently "gay" .D<

IceMasterX - May 8, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
I learned about it from my friend at school when I was 5. That would have been around 2000. We'd "play", or RP pokemon, even though I didn't even really know what all the pokemon were. But now, that friend has finally lost interest, but I'm still a true pokemon fan. ^^

Noodles - May 9, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
I got introduced to it really late. I guess I knew a tiny bit about it, something vague like a random card game I'd never seen anyone play, until my brother got a GBA for his birthday along with Sapphire. I was never so amazed in my life. That's why Sapphire is my favorite game and always will be. It's what got me into Pokemon and video games in general. I pretty much stole my brother's game and played it all the time. I was bored, and he didn't play it because it was too complicated for him. <.< Yeah. He's the button-mashing type, and not that I'm against those games, it's just that it's hard for me to hit buttons really fast. Because they're on the right side of the controller. Yes, Noodles is a lefty, in a world where they only make righty controllers. But she rocks at steering in pretty much any game. And she's modest. *shot*

So that is the amazing story of how I got immersed way late and knew more about the third Gen than I did the first and second combined. But now I'm pretty much as obsessed as anyone else I've met (or more), so you don't have to come in early to truly get addicted to something. But knowing what a Pikachu was would have helped before I got the game.

Charmander_From_Hoenn - May 11, 2007 02:58 PM (GMT)
My brother bought us a Blue and in little time we knew a lot of specs. Later, we have bought Pokémon Stadium 1 and were able to use Mewtwo (Well...To use a Mewtwo extracted from the Blue version. xD). Then, in the (southern) summer vacations, we have got two more versions as a present. We had to choose between Gold and Lugia. My brother instantly chose Silver. Later, we bought the Pokémon Stadium 2, and learned advanced specs. But, as time passed, my brother got less hooked, but I have got more. He got himself a Sapphire, but one day he got sick of it (He couldn't beat the elite) and gave it to me. Well, the rest is very long, but we still play a computer game called NetBattle. There are two facts always defined when we play: I'll win, and he will start to ramble and say that I'm a cheater, just because he can't take tactics like FPuncher Breeloom/Aggron...Hehe, he is alwas rambling on how often I use Substitute...

Smudgey - May 11, 2007 07:53 PM (GMT)
I watched the anime and liked it (this was when I was little by the way, probably like, 5) I then at the age of about 7, say a Pokeball thingy in my local Woolworths shop and I bought it with some of my birthday money, I took it to school on toy day and swapped it for Blue for the summer holidays and although I didn't understand what I was doing, I thought it was cool so I bought Red then Yellow then Crystal and Silver, then Ruby, then Fire Red and then.... blue. Funny how the first game I played was the last I got. I got it really for memories.

Rapiido - May 21, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
I was looking through cards that someone on my baseball team had (I was like... 6 or 7) and I liked them. Then I saw Pokemon on TV for the first time it had ever aired (I'm one of the few that saw the VERY first episode EVER aired WOOT X3) and I kept following it... then got Blue version... then itall expanded after that.

SilverEspeon - May 21, 2007 08:48 AM (GMT)
When it first came out, I heard people at my school going on about it. Then I watched it on Tv after school, and loved it. So then I got hooked, and here I am XD

Arrow - May 27, 2007 05:12 PM (GMT)
Heard about it from school. I remember Zapdos was my favourite Pokemon because it was an electric/flying type, and I knew that electric > flying. So, I thought it would be the ultimate aerial dogfighter, so I liked that one. Looked more into it, and that was that. =P

Kiri - June 3, 2007 10:41 AM (GMT)
Ahhh, the memories. I was about four? Five? Six? Can't remember. My friend had these stacks of cards, all collected in a binder (it was a full binder), see, and we watched a Pokemon eppy together. (Man, he was three! >D) Ever since, I've been hooked. A year ago, though (2006), I about lost interest in the anime. I kept founding errors in the pokemon and the pokemon's attacks (such as Shadow Ball attacking a Zigzagoon! D<).

Satoshi - June 7, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, let's see if I can remember.. I think I was about four or five, I was just coming out of my "Power Ranger Phase" (I use to carry a red bucket filled with power ranger toys all around lol!) I'm not sure how I stumbled upon it though.. It was either that I saw the tv show and then got Blue for Christmas, but I think it was like this:

My parents saw that these were the hottest products for their kids. I had a game boy color and my sister had a gameboy, So our parents got my sister Red and me Blue. I remember my sister and I wondering how the hell we were supposed to capture them "Where are the pokeballs?" we kept saying.

So If we knew what pokeballs were, I guess I watched the anime from the very beginning and followed the games and then my dad brought home the trading card game for us, My first holo was a Kangaskong! Since I got blue, I have always gotten the 2nd game and the 3rd game: Silver & Crystal, Sapphire & Emerald and Pearl & I'll be getting Berlitz.

Although, I have every Pokemon game now... Some are even in japanese!

Arrow - June 9, 2007 05:24 AM (GMT)
I had similar thoughts at first, too. XD Only it was regarding how weak Pokemon have to be to catch them.

Axphear - July 28, 2007 08:40 PM (GMT)
I can't remember completly but I've heard a lot of storys...

I was about 4 & began seeing the show & collecting the cards. I was hooked! Before this I was obsessed with animals & could name about everyone & draw them! I caught up quick to pokemon & soon I knew all of there names & was drawing them instead. About 2 weeks later I was tested for the Gate program. They'd show me pictures of animals & instead of saying there name I said pokemon. Then they let me have free time, & I drew pokemon! I wasn't accepted into Gate...
That's the one time pokemon turned agenst me. ;_;...

Everyone in school loved it too! After about 2 years barely anyone liked it any more. Then after a few more years I moved all the way across the country & no one really likes it much here...
I think by now I'm a true Pokemon Master! XP And I'm truely proud of it. I hope to be a true Pokemon Master until they day I DIE! O_O...T_T...Er...Yeah...

EonWing - July 29, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
In third grade, about 3 years ago, my friend brought a little Sandslash model to school. She then told me it was a Pokemon that could extend its claws and skewer people with them. She called it Slicer, and, as little as I new about Pokemon then, was adamant about the name. So I asked a couple of my friends if there was a Pokemon called "Slicer". They suggested Scyther, and then when I gave them the description of it, suggested Sandslash. Then my other friend, (the one who had brought the model) came walking up and told me it was, in fact, Sandslash. A few months later I got my Ruby Version, and that's how I found out about it. (yes I know it sounds like an essay, probably because I've had to write so many.:P)

Eievui - July 31, 2007 12:54 PM (GMT)
I don't know when I first got hooked on Pokemon, but it was sometime when I was a little kid, because I remember watching anime a lot then.

Deoxys109999 - August 1, 2007 06:08 AM (GMT)
My friends were playing it and I don't know how, or why, but I was hooked... Permanently. I started in 1998 and remain a huge fan to this day.

Twilight Dragon - August 10, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
I heard from my cousin relatively recently. (2004 something like that)

And my first Pokemon game? Ruby.

Omega Latios - August 10, 2007 10:00 AM (GMT)
When Pokémon was first shown in television in Finland... was it 1997? I started to like Pokémon after the very first episode. I got collectible cards, and everyone at school loved Pokémon... but not anymore. Anyone doesn't like it, except for me.

A few years ago, I got my GBA and my first Pokémon game, Gold Version. It has been the best Pokémon game ever, methinks.

Edit: But the first Pokémon game I played was Red Version, which my friend had.

Tensheon - August 22, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
I got hooked because my brother liked it and I looked up to him like anything when I was little. Now he's lost interest and me, my younger siblings, and my cousins (one of which is only a few hours older then me, born on the night before my birthday). I'm obsessed now! =P

Aqua - August 22, 2007 02:22 PM (GMT)
I didn't find out about it till I was in fifth grade like, waaaay back in '97. It took some time getting into it, but after a while it turned into a long time love for the series that's still going strong. Of course, the first Pokemon I ever fell in love with (Not literally), was Vaporeon x3

It was the first Pokemon I had ever seen, and when I saw it, no thanks to my friends, I thought it was just too adorable, and I still think it's the most adorable pokemon as well as Espeon X3 Yes, I know, I've graduated out of high school, but that doesn't mean I can't think things are cute y'know >/
I have a cute complex (Otherwise known as an obsession), and yes, that may seem like a strange thing for a guy to have, there's nothing wrong with it =/
I blame Vaporeon for getting me into Pokemon >/ Pokemon is like, one of the greatest handheld games ever.

GlaceonTrainer - August 22, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
I was hooked from the start. I was little though. I found out about it through a cusion(Sp?) that had just moved to Japan and sent me a pack of cards for my Birthday. My love for it has grown ever since.

October - August 23, 2007 07:18 AM (GMT)
I found out about Pokemon when I was five and I got a Game Boy and a Red Version for Christmas. My friend who I used to live across the road from got the same thing (except he already had a Game Boy) so we had fun together for a while.

Naxalge Dusksfield - August 25, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
Well, once fateful day long ago, I was watching my television. I switched through the channels, bored. Then I saw an episode of the anime played and was hooked from there. I liked the show because of the Pokemon, I wanted to draw all of them and used to record episodes and pause them to draw each Pokemon doing an interested pose or attack that I happened to catch.

My love of the anime lead to me buying other things, including my first game ever, Pokemon Silver at the Christmas of 2000 and Gold soon after. My first Pokemon ever was Chikorita, which is why it's one of my favourites! First time I played the game, I was an idiot. I couldn't even figure out how to get out of my mom's house! XD

There were some people who were interested in it also, I had a Pokemon pal who I would discuss Pokemon with 24/7. There was also a phase where I "hated" Pokemon, but I was just pretending because I was ashamed, but I got over it. I've always liked Pokemon and now I'm what they call a true fan!

Pointy - August 31, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
....I don't know xD It's just one of those things that I just..knew about. I can't remember when i actually started liking it though ono;

but.....I remember one of my favorite Pokemon being Charizard xD

MawileGirl - September 19, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
I think it was when the Johto series started airing and me, being semi-little, liked it and watched it. My true pokemon love, however, erupted when I got Sapphire and I wuved it. <3

Squall - January 11, 2008 10:41 PM (GMT)
Since the GameBoy games came out in 1998, I was 5 years old. I never really liked anything else besides the games; TCG/Animé/Manga never really attracted me.

Hawkfish - August 5, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
Meh, I went on a Google Image search. And I saw Mewtwo. I thought he looked cool so I got interested.

Avielus - August 5, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
I bought Yellow version for my Gameboy color, and never failed after to buy the newest Pokemon when it came out.

Twilight - August 7, 2008 11:15 PM (GMT)
When I was 3 or 4, I watched a comercial advertising the Pokemon anime and Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, I was hooked on both, but Yu-Gi-Oh! kinda faded on me. :<_<:

My first pokemon game I bought was Gold, which is now lost, my second was crystal, around this time, Ruby and Sappire were already out, but Wal-Mart didn't have them from what I saw.^^;

My fandoms fade in and out.

Flare - August 31, 2008 06:24 PM (GMT)
I'm not completely sure how I first found out about Pokémon. It was either seeing an episode of the animé, or hearing about Red and Blue from someone at school or my older brother, who got Blue sometime to when it first came out, I think. I thought it looked interesting, and I remember asking my parents for a Pokémon game. I ended up getting Yellow for Christmas when I was seven.

Bellomence - August 31, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
Well, I've seen my cousin playing Pokemon Silver Version on her computer and that attracted me. Then, after my parents bought me a GameBoy Advance, I saw a Silver Version next to the product (in the flesh!) so I decided to buy it.

I became a Pokemon Fan in that day.
