Title: Mew.
Description: Tips on shading, please?

Ice Beam - March 25, 2007 11:33 PM (GMT)
Here's a Mew I drew and finished yesterday.

Click here.

It's my first drawing I've bothered to photoshop. To be honest, I've never been good at shading at all and I'd really appreciate if someone provided some tips on it; I always seem to mess it up when I try to do it by myself, but meh... practise makes the master, I suppose. ^^;; Also, are there any parts that don't seem to be correct? Wonky lines? Anything else? I'd really appreciate if you pointed them all out.

I accept any kind of critique; after all, that's the only way to improve (besides practising).

I don't see anything wrong....
SO CUTE, though, it looks like a chibi, it's the cutest mew I've ever seen!
The shading is really good, too, even though you think it's not.

That is awsome!!! SO CUTE!! I really can't see anything wrong with it ^^

That's very cute. ^^ I suppose it's your style to have the eyes be flat circles like that. I quite like Mew and I think it's very cute. The nostrils bug me, though- I would picture Mew's nostrils to be catlike or rabbitlike, not lizardlike as they appear there. Still, that is quite neat. I'm a big fan of the soft-shading style myself. Way to go. ^^

Yayz! People liked it! (Well, not all since not everyone has commented, but still. ^^;; ) Remember, if you see any flaws, tell me so I can go "Bad pen, bad paper, bad computer, BAD IB!! user posted image" and fix it (or at least try to make it look better).

Well, I can draw Mew's actual eyes, but you see... I wanted this one to have that... how to say, that small/cute-ish look. x);; And well, I thought that maybe the flat circle eyes were perfect for that, heh, but that's just me... ^^;;

Okay! I'll be sure to remember that the next time I draw Mew; or perhaps I could copy the image and try to change it on photoshop. I did that kind of nose because, well... I'm a beginner and can't do many cool styles/noses/eyes/whatever without ruining the drawing. ^^; But I'll keep in mind the cat/rabbit nose and... keep practising! Perhaps ones of these days I'll be the fan artist I wish to be! XD;;

Thanks again to everyone, and I'm still open for more comments/critiques if you have some.

I draw Mew's nose in a style resembling a rabbit's. Sort of like a v, except wider. It couldn't be easier, and it ends up being even cuter.

Oh, I see! Is it something like this? *Hopes for it to be alright* >.<

^Thank you! 8D

So well, uh, which one looks better, the first one or the second one?

By the way, I'm still open for comments/critiques/whatever if you have.

The second one is great. ^^ Way to go. I'd like to see more art from you the next time you draw something.
