Title: My sprites splicing of bordem
Description: Well what can I say? I got bored

Hey, they are in my signature. Please note that they are my FIRST EVER attempt at splicing and I was very bored at the time.

I think they're pretty good for your first time. =3 The Pikachu looks slightly "messy", as the tail is in a strange place (normally it's be between the wings), and the wings are a little awkwardly positioned. Otherwise, it's good.
The Blastoise is pretty cool, and the only thing bad about the Salamence is the positioning and sizes of its wings.
I think you should've colored Moltres's Articuno wings and positioned them better, as well. X3

Kronakitty said it all. You could've pasted the tail behind the wing, the Blastoise is okay but the head part looks too much like copy and pasted. Moltres could've been better if it was recolored. Salamence's wing's position is not right...xD
but they are good for your first =D

Time for me to convert yet another spriter to PMF-brand splicing, ie. not just copy-pasting and calling it a mix.
Recoloring is the core of spriting. Please study the tutorial (and ignore the off-color pixels, I was pressed for filesize) in order to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.
Basically, you can't just paste a bunch of cut-off parts onto Pokemon and call it a mix. You have to recolor the Pokemon to the color of that Pokemon and add more than one part. Taking a bunch of cool-looking attachments and placing them onto the sprite isn't splicing. It's a careful art.
Here, try this basic mix I've assigned to several beginning spriters if you want. Mix Teddiursa and Pichu, but don't just paste Pichu's attachments onto Teddiursa. Recolor the bear to a Pichu yellow and put the tail carefully on. You can even try drawing a pink circle on the cheeks freehand- it's easy. Always sprite zoomed in to 6x of 8x- it's much easier that way.

Yeah I know, but I had to go soon, thanks for your comments! I will do better next time.

There, another one, I hope this is much better!
Kronakitty - February 28, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
Ya, that one's much better. :3 You did good with the recoloring, but the lower parts of the wings could use some more shadowing to give it form. Also, since Metapod's body is at an angle, the left tentacle thing should be slightly more "inward" or covered by the body... if that makes sense. XD;

You recolored this time, but it's still a bunch of parts messily grafted onto Metapod. It's not what you would call a splice. The best splices are seamless fusions of two Pokemon that really look like a combination. Metapod with Masquerain's wings and Tentacool's tentacles isn't really a seamless fusion.
For example, see my Lucanine.

(I'm not posting it for the sake of posting it. This is an example.)
Forget that most of the parts are scratch. See how you can clearly see that I used Arcanine as a base but added Lucario parts so it looked like a seamless fusion of the two? I didn't just slap on some part from Lucario recolored to Arcanine and call it a mix.
Furthermore, you should take time. "Sorry but I had to go soon" isn't exactly an excuse. Unless you can't leave your Microsoft Paint open for the period that you leave there's no reason for you not to do your mix over several days, as long as you put enough effort into it. The best spriters commit hours to their work, but not all at one time. Take your time with these things, and the more often you do it, the faster you'll be able to in the future.

I mage a new one -

Your Moltres/Articuno looks like a Moltres with Articuno wings stapled on. Seriously, recolour the wings.
That is good, but the entei's head looks strange. Try scratching the head.

Scratching is difficult for beginning spriters, but it's ultimately a good skill. I don't think he could scratch the head, though.
Anyhow, it is agreed by many spriters that Rayquaza is the hardest Pokemon for newbie spriters to work with. Please... your work will improve very quickly if you start easy. Heed my advice and splice only two Pokemon per mix, and don't just swap one part over. Go the whole nine yards and complete the mix.
At least you're recoloring now, but you're not listening to my suggestions on mixing. Listen, please.
