Jay looked around silver town, bored. There was nohing to do. She petted the dark ,doglike pokemon that she had gotten recently. It had already grown attached to her.
"Dour." She said, apparently as bored as Jay.

You see a few kids playing around at the town square a little ways off. They're new trainers like you, with Pokemon at their sides.

"Hey, Violante,do you want to go see what they're doing?" Violante is what Jay had named her houndour.
"Dour."
"It's better than sitting here, bored, I guess." She had thought about it for a while, and she couldn't think of anything better to do. Neither could Violante. Jay walked over to the kids.
"Hey, can we play?"
"Dour houndour?" Apparently, Violante liked to repeat the things that Jay said. Unless they were talking to eachother.

The kids looked over at you, and nodded.

"Sure... I guess..." one of them said. "We're battling with our Pokemon. The winner gets a special prize."

"Oooh, a tournament, sounds fun!"
"Dour dour!" That repeating thing could get annoying. thought Jay.
"Who is battling first?"
"Houn, dour?" Yes that's annoying.

((Me likes to develop my pokemon's personalities funnily. XD))

The kid who spoke to you walked forward. "I'm Rith," he introduced himself. "And these are some other kids. I'm going to battle next, but we have an odd number of people, so would you like to battle my Taillow and I? Meanwhile, these other kids are going to battle each other. We can heal our Pokemon after each battle. You can quit any time you'd like."

"Sure, sounds fun!"
"Dour dour!" Jay sighed.
"When does the battle start?"

Rith smiled challengingly. "How about right now? Are you ready for the battle?" His small black and white Taillow fluttered onto his shoulder. "Tail-ooow!" it screeched.

Taillow- Level 4, 18 HP

"Ok, then, go, Violante, use howl, followed by ember!" The dark fire dog leaped forward, and howled with all her might.

Rith launched his Taillow off of his arm. "Go, Taillow!" he called. "Use Peck!" Taillow attacked Violante with its sharp beak, and the dark dog Pokemon stumbled backwards, howling as her attack levels went up. She reared back and unleased a column of flame from her mouth, singeing the tips of Taillow's wings. Taillow let out a sharp cry and settled on the ground, rustling its feathers in distress.

Peck: 4 HP, 100 Accuracy
Ember: 4 HP, 100 Accuracy

Violante: 16/20 HP (next physical move +2)
Taillow: 14/18 HP

"Ok, this time try an ember followed by leer!"
"Dour, dour, dour!" She started to prepare the leer, while, yet again, Jay sighed.

Violante shot another burst of fire from his mouth, hitting the Taillow again. The bird screeched as the fire licked its feathers, but as it rapidly flapped its wings the fire cooled and vanished. It then glared at Violante and lunged forward with its beak. While its wings were too singed to fly, it powered itself along by flapping its wings and propelling itself across the ground. It struck Violante on the side, its beak scoring against its fur. It was too late for the Taillow to avoid the dark, dangerous-looking glare it got in reply. Its feathers drooped in spite of themselves, causing the Taillow to look smaller and more vulnerable than before.

Violante: 12/20 HP (Next physical move +2)
Taillow: 10/18 HP (Next attack to this Pokemon does +2 damage)

"Just keep using ember, I guess..."
"Dour dour, houn...." Violante rushed forward, ready to ember the taillow.

Violante unleashed more flames at the little bird, and Taillow shrieked as the flames reached it. It fanned the flames out with its wings, and it now looked extremely angry.

"Taillow, use Peck again!" Taillow's trainer commanded. Taillow hopped forward, tapping Houndour with its sharp beak. Houndour flinched back.

Violante: 8/20 HP
Taillow: 4/18 HP

"Try another ember, to finish it off, and if the doesn't work, use two embers!"
"Houn, dour dour, dour, houndour!" She started to prepare the attcks. Jay sighed. Again.

Violante rushed forward to unleash Ember after Ember. She obviously wanted to please Jay as much as possible.

Taillow launched a single Peck, but was overwhelmed by the fiery waves.

Violante: 8/20 HP (you have gained 25 exp. points! You need 25 more for the next level)
Taillow: Fainted

Rith went to his Pokemon to make sure it was okay. He then looked up at Jay and gave her a slight nod. "Congrats", he murmured. "You were tougher than I thought, really. Are you going to battle more? If so, make sure to go heal first."

"Thank you! And yes, I will keep battling."
"Dour houn! Dou, Dou Hound Dou Dour." Violante repeated, while Jay sighed. She ran off to heal Violante.

When you returned, another kid had already stepped up to the battle line. He had matted brown hair and a stern-looking face. "I'm Nickel," he said. "And I'm here to defeat you. And you're going to lose. And I'm gonna win."

He threw a PokeBall without a word. A Voltorb popped out in a flash of light.

"M'kay, then. Go, Violante."
"D'dour, houn. Hou, ondour." She jumped out in front of Jay.
"Use leer, then ember."

Violante's eyes shone with a Leer attack, and the Voltorb flinched back a bit in fright. But before it could do anything else, the Houndour blew a small wave of fire at the Electric Pokemon. It was burnt as it charged back with a Tackle. Both Pokemon landed evenly on their own sides.

Violante: 16/20 HP
Voltorb: 16/20 HP Status: Burn (-2 HP per turn)

"Voltorb, use Charge. And gather energy." Nickel ordered.

Charge: 0 HP damage, +2 damage for next Electric attack

"Dodge its next attack, and use another leer-ember combo."
Dour, dou sour, houn...." This might take awhile. She thought, then sighed, Violante was just finishing.
"Dou, Houndour." Then got prepared.

Houndour leaped out of the way just as the Voltorb finished charging. A stray spark hit it, but it did not do as much damage as it was not a full impact. Houndour Leered at the Voltorb before it could do anything else. The Voltorb flinched back and cringed from its Burn - just as Houndour unleashed a wave of Ember.

Houndour: 14/20 HP
Voltorb: 9/20 HP Status: Burn (-2 HP per turn)
