Title: Sprites
justanotherpokemonfan - January 30, 2007 02:10 PM (GMT)
Here are some sprties that I made (I know they're not very good, I have better ones on a different computer)

That is a rukushio-rentoraa mix, i know it's nt very good, but I love the whole korinku line.

This is a korinku-rukushio mix, even worse.

this is a fire- leafia sprite, because my all-time favorite pokemon is leafia, and my favorite type is fire. o.O

this is a weird sprite that I made for a weird contest a eeveeshq forums. I came in
third.

mudrachi. nuff said.
Um, yeah, that's all I have on this computer. I also take requests. I can do:
Splices(not too complex please)
Recolors(a different pokemon's colors, or totally new colors)
trainer sprites
characters(as long as they're not too hard)
eggs
trainer-pokemon mixies
I will NOT do scratches, as my scratches are awful.
The form for rquesting is as follows
for splices:
number of pokemon:(only two or three please, but I might do four, if it's not too hard)
What pokemon:
Base pokemon:
Which pokemon's color you want it to be:
Any specifics: (such as charizard's wings on machop, or something like that)
Recolors:
What pokemon: (if it is a fake, I need a refrence)
What colors:(totally new colors, or another pokemon's colors)
Trainer sprites:
A good description
eggs:
What pokemon you want the egg to be like:
characters:
What character:
Reference or description:
trainer-pokemon mixies:
description-or reference- of the trainer:
pokemon to be mixed with the trainer:
In all of the forms, you may add what generation you want the sprite as.
I would like credit for my sprites. If it is character, I would still like credit, but you don't have to give credit, seeing as it's your character.
Requests:
Wyvern's jiraci egg Eivui's Glacia egg zephyr's charmander recolor zephyr's pichu-teddiursa mix Finished:
Wyvern's jiraci egg
Eivui's Glacia egg
zephyr's charmander recolor
zephyr's pichu-teddiursa mix
the requested images:

The leafia needs work. First I still see some leafs so make sure you erase those. Also it would look more firey if you recolor the skin, not just adding fires to it.
Now can I have an egg?
eggs:
What pokemon you want the egg to be like: Jirachi
Eievui - January 30, 2007 11:29 PM (GMT)
Eievui wants eggy. xD
What Pokemon you the egg to be like: Glacia

Ok, I'll get to work on those soon.

*Adminalates thread* There is such thing as an edit button, but I suppose you had to update and inform people of it so your post is sensible. However, (and this goes for everyone) PLEASE try to put more in your posts than "you're welcome." It terminates the discussion for others.
As for your sprites, being a long-time spriter myself may I crit? Your Korinku line is decent, I've never really seen such an effective mix between one line before. The others, however... they're not all that good. The Leafeon is basically Ponyta's fire cut and pasted onto the sprite. You can still see green showing through. You should at least recolor the body and make an effort to change the type.
Your trainer sprites are nothing to wow over either- they're just Gastly and haunter pasted over the head. That took you what, 30 seconds?
What else really bugs me is you saying you stink at scratches. -_- Nobody does, they're just too scared to start. Scratching can mean the difference between an awful mix and a great one, where two incompatible Pokemon otherwise come together with scratch parts. Try to learn to scratch at least markings and fire.
justanotherpokemonfan - February 1, 2007 10:28 PM (GMT)
I've tried scratching before, trust me, I'm awful. Also, I did not just put ponyta's flames, actually, there aren't any ponyta flames at all, but the rest isn't thtat great, I know. Thanks about the korinku suff. The sprite with the trainers is supposed to be dumb so, I guess that it's good for what it was supposed to be, but bad for other things.
Zephyr - February 2, 2007 02:04 AM (GMT)
Pff, I was really bad at scratching too when I began. But you know what? Stant and you'll never want to stop. It's really brilliant and easy to get the hang of if you only just try. Seriously, just mix two Pokemon and scratch something simple, like a tail or a marking. Then you can progress onto bigger things. No need to immediately delve into fakemon yet. Start small and work your way up.
There's a fine line between "dumb" and "no effort whatsoever." Keep that in mind- I'm still flabbergasted you won third. o_o
No matter what flames they are, they're just pasted over and over again. Just try recoloring Leafia's leaves so they are fire-colored and THEN posibly change the tail.
As a matter of fact, I haven't seen you actually recolor something. Try recoloring a Charmander blue.
justanotherpokemonfan - February 2, 2007 12:55 PM (GMT)
Ok, I will, and I made a scratch spongebob sprite for a contest, here it is:

I'll go and make the charmander as soon as I can (I'll fix the leafia too)
EDIT: I finished the charmander sprite (I made it blue and green because the stomach is a different color)

There it is!
Zephyr - February 2, 2007 08:29 PM (GMT)
Agh, you're making one of the worst beginner spriter mistakes.
See that green? The blinding green that makes up its stomach? You took that from the palette below the pic on paint, correct? Well, and I must stress here, NEVER use those colors. They hurt people's eyes SO badly it's not funny. Do you know how to customise colors? Go to the "colors" option up top and choose "choose custom color" on the bottom. There, you can make an entire palette of customised colors that fit your sprite perfectly.
The Spongebob is creepy, but that's probably just because Spongebob is naturally disturbing. However, the thing has no shading and is basically symmetrical. The spots don't look like holes at all, but rather like moldy cheese. And you used paint defaults for the tie and the shorts.
Take my advice and start small with your scratching, learning necessary things like anatomy and shading before progressing onto full-blown pixelart. If you go into it right away without experience, you will end up getting harsh criticism and thinking you have no talent, thus giving up on spriting.
Here, try something easy: Mix Teddiursa with Pichu, Teddiursa base. Draw Pichu's markings on carefully, making sure your shading is consistent.
justanotherpokemonfan - February 2, 2007 08:59 PM (GMT)
Ok, but I didn't use default colors on the charmander, I just made a neon green 'cuz I like it. :P
EDIT: I fixed the leafia sprite, here it is.

EDIT #2: I also finished the teddiursa-pichu mix:

The ears are a bit awkward, I couldn't get 'em right.
And, I made a mudkip- Jirachi mix:

Hey I've been a long spriter too. Over these years I've improved greatly. So may i crit?
I think you made the worst mistake that not even beginners make for the leafia.
NEVER save it as JPG or JPEG. It ruins the beautiful sprite and it will look more like an artwork. Always save it as PNG. I guess gif is fine but I prefer PNG as it gets rid of the dots. Its a good sprite overall but it looks like JPG
As for the Teddiursa, I think i still see the round tail and Pichu's tail is misplaced. Try erasing some of Teddiursa's part (In this case its tail) and add Pichu's tail.
justanotherpokemonfan - February 3, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
It's not my fault that the leafia saved that way, it's the dumb computer's fault.*is mad at computer*
I didn't know that that was teddirusa's tail.
EDIT:
I fixed it:
Zephyr - February 3, 2007 09:27 PM (GMT)
Save it as .bmp instead of .jpeg if you can't save as .png. Although I see you're using photobucket, which converts .bmps to .jpegs. Use
Imageshack for your bitmaps.
Okay, here's a rule of thumb: when mixing,
recolor the Pokemon to the color of the base. You just threw Pichu's ears and tail on there and scribbled in a few pixels for the nape. Recolor the Teddiursa using Pichu's colors so it turns yellow. Easy, really.
Your Leafia is still poor, except now it turns red. Really, it's just a bunch of fire cut off and applied to it. Try typechanges other than fire to begin with, or rather avoid them altogether- they're really very noobish and useless. Splices, now... you can go really far with those.
Speaking of going really far, try to make an evo for the Teddiursachu next. Raichu/Ursaring, consider your placement and recoloring carefully.
Wolf Link - February 4, 2007 09:14 AM (GMT)
Tip: Don't EVER save as a .gif. It wrecks pictures, okay? I save as .png
IceMasterX - February 4, 2007 01:43 PM (GMT)
Hmm. . .Being a beginner myself, I love the Leafia. It was just saved as a JPEG. . .
Hmm. . .I'd like an Azurill with Loudred ears.
justanotherpokemonfan - February 4, 2007 01:56 PM (GMT)
Ok, I'll get right on that. Did you want only the ears, or more than that?
Wyvern - February 5, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
Hm...try a Rampard egg :)
Oh and once its JPEG, it will never turn back to normal so thats why I HATE JPEG
justanotherpokemonfan - February 6, 2007 03:07 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I figured that out. if we have no school again tommorow, I will try to finish all the requests.
justanotherpokemonfan - February 6, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
Ok, since you only wanted the loudred ears, that's all I did on the azurill

I made 4 differet rampurado eggs

a lot of images o.O
EDIT: raisaring

Do you know how long it takes to recolor an ursaring?

justanotherpokemonfan - February 7, 2007 11:51 PM (GMT)
Glad you like 'em, actually, eggs are super easy to make.
IceMasterX - March 9, 2007 10:58 PM (GMT)
Could you recolor the outside of the ears to Azurill's colors, and fix the shading on left (Azurill's right) ear. If I wanted it like that, I could have done it myself.
justanotherpokemonfan - March 10, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
M'kay, but if you had used the form I made, it might have been easier.
IceMasterX - March 10, 2007 02:40 PM (GMT)
Whoops! I'm sorry. I'll use it next time.
justanotherpokemonfan - March 11, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
Ok, here it is!

I think it's better now.
But, if you still don't like it:
Shadow - March 12, 2007 09:20 PM (GMT)
One thing with the last sprite... be sure not to copy flip (taking one part and flipping it so it can be the other wing/arm/foot/whatever). If you do, at least shade the other one differently so it doesn't look copy-flipped.
Kronakitty - March 12, 2007 09:46 PM (GMT)
I agree with Shadow, and one more thing. For both the sprites, I think you should put more dark blue into the outlines. Black is perfectly fine, but using a blue-black variety like the ears would give it more form and give it better quality. =3
justanotherpokemonfan - March 14, 2007 08:53 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the advice! I don't like to copy/flip, but the other leg didn't look right on it.
