Title: Pokemon Fanfic

Kaiser - August 24, 2006 02:38 PM (GMT)
Yes, the main character is Ryo. Sometimes I'm too lazy to think up anime names, so I just use Ryo or Ryou >_> Anyway, I haven't editted it very well, so it kind of sucks. Please tell me what needs improving.

Chapter One: The Journey Begins! Vs. Fearow

The clock ticked continuously as Ryo, a boy from Viridian City who was about to become a beginning Pokemon trainer, sat on his bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking of what his first Pokemon might be. Most trainers in Kanto start off with one of the three Pokemon that Professor Oak had: Bulbasaur the Seed Pokemon, Charmander the Lizard Pokemon, and Squirtle the Tiny Turtle Pokemon. But tomorrow, on September 22, Ryo's tenth birthday, his grandfather was going to give him a rare Pokemon. After a few minutes passed, there was a knock on his door and a red haired woman that held a brown, cat-like Pokemon with long ears and white puffs of hair around it's neck and the tip of it's tail.

"Ryo, your Pappy and Gran are here, and they want you to open one present before you go to bed," she said.

Ryo sat up and said, "Thanks mom. But why do they want me to open it now? Couldn't they wait until tomorrow?"

His mother giggled lightly. "Just come down and open it."

Ryo walked down the stairs from his room when his mother left and into the family room, where his grandparents, and his sister Winona, a Gym Leader from the Hoenn Region. "There he is, the birthday boy!" His grandfather, Pappy, greeted him.

"Thanks but it's not my birthday yet," Ryo responded.

"Come on, lad," his grandfather said, holding up a small box covered in red and white wrapping paper, "that doesn't mean you can't open it."

Ryo shrugged and took the present and slowly peeled the paper off, until only the box was visible in his hands. He opened the box slowly and was dumbfounded for what was inside.

"I knew you'd like it," Pappy said, smiling widely.

"Like it? I love it!"

Inside the box was a red and white ball on top of black styrofoam.

"Open the Pokeball," Pappy said, still smiling.

Ryo took the ball out of the box and threw it. In a burst of light when the ball opened, a small, but long, blue and white serpent-like Pokemon with a small dot on the middle of its forehead, and two small fans on the side of it's head appeared curled on the floor, asleep.

"A Dratini? How did you get that?" Ryo asked.

"It wasn't easy and it's a long story. Lets just say I had help with a retired trainer from Hoenn."

Ryo shrugged and crouched down to Dratini and began to poke it lightly to wake it up. The serpent's eyes opened halfway and let out a soft cry and looked at Ryo. It let out another cry and sprayed a burst of water at his face and went back to sleep. Winona laughed as her brother wiped the water off his face and said, "Hey, now that you have your first Pokemon, want to have a battle?"

Ryo looked at his sister and then looked at the sleeping Dratini, and stood up and said, "You're on!"

Winona smiled as the family walked outside and into a outside the house. "Alright. I'll go easy on you and use the Pokemon I just caught on my way here," she pulled out a Pokeball, "Go Fearow!"

In a burst of light, a large, brown bird with a red rooster-like comb, appeared, giving out a loud screech. Dratini woke up again and watched as Fearow flew above it.

"Go, Fearow, use Drill Peck!" yelled Winona. Fearow flew down towards Dratini as a whirlwind appeared around it's beak, and struck it in the chest. Dratini gave a weak cry as Fearow flew back into the air.

"Finish this," Winona said, "use Aerial Ace!"

Fearow gave out another loud screech, and shot down towards the ground and then towards Dratini at full speed. "Dratini, use Thunder Wave!" Ryo yelled and the serpent Pokemon shot a small blast of electricity out of it's mouth and struck Fearow as it flew towards it.

"Ryo, tell Dratini to use Water Gun!" yelled Pappy.

Ryo nodded and yelled, "Dratini, use Water Gun!" Dratini shot a burst of water out of it's mouth and struck the fallen Fearow, who was covered in sparks from the Thunder Wave, showing it was Paralyzed. Fearow gave a loud shriek of pain as the sparks from the Thunder Wave shocked it when the water came in contact with them.

"Fearow, return." Winona said and a red light shot out of her Pokeball, sucking Fearow back in. "Good job for a first try, Ryo," she said smiling, "But as I said, I just caught it on my way here, so Drill Peck was the only attack that I knew it knew and I taught it Aerial Ace through a TM."

"What's your strongest Pokemon then?"

"Your find out once you get to Fortree City in Hoenn." Ryo smiled as he returned Dratini into it's Pokeball and the rest of his family went back inside the house.

Gahh you like Zane too much. XDD (*people in the distance: Well, Kronakitty, you like Sesshoumaru too much!*)

It's pretty good, but maybe you should work a little on the descriptions and try to put in what your characters are feeling, etc. ;) I see some grammar errors, and you repeat a lot of words. But then again, I'm just a harder-than-average critic. ^^; Anyway, keep up the work! =D

I'm not the greatest when it comes to fanfics. I always slack off XD. I'll try and fix it up. Anyway, here's chapter 2.

Chapter Two: The Mysterious Pokemon

"Wake up Dratini," Ryo said excitedly, shaking the sleeping Dratini on the foot of his bed. The Dragon Pokemon opened its eyes and yawned. Ryo put a green vest on over a black shirt and picked up Dratini's Pokeball. "Come on!"

Dratini opened one eye and sprayed Ryo with Water Gun again, and went back to sleep. Ryo lifted an orange backpack and threw it onto his bed and began to pack to prepare for his journey. He grabbed the other presents his family gave him early in the morning; a Pokedex, five Pokeballs, and three Potions from the Viridian City Mart, as well as a pouch Winona gave him to put berries into. He shook Dratini again, this time, a little tougher.

Dratini opened it's mouth and shot water out again. Ryo wiped the water off his face and raised the Pokeball. "Return." A red light shot out and sucked Dratini in to the ball. He pulled his backpack on, slipped on his black and red sneakers, and left the house.

Outside, his mom, Winona, and grandparents, Poppy and Gran were waiting for him. "Good luck out there," said Winona smiling, "Here's one last birthday present before you go." She handed him a small package covered in black wrapping paper. He ripped the paper off and opened the box. A small black device was in it.

"That's a Pokegear," she said, still smiling, "it can be used as a watch and an alarm, a phone, a map, and a radio." Ryo took it out of the box and turned it on. A map appeared on the screen with an arrow pointing down on his location. Numbers were shown at the bottom of the screen showing the time, along with a picture of the phone.

"Cool! Thanks sis!" he said holding it tightly in his hand.

"Hey, if I see around my gym in Hoenn, I'll challenge you to a rematch!" She said tightening her hand into a fist. "You better have your Dratini then!"

"By then, its gonna be a Dragonite!" Ryo said tightening his hand into a fist. Their mom and grandparents laughed. After saying goodbye to his family, Ryo started on his journey as a Pokemon Trainer.

* * *

"So the first gym is in Pewter City, eh," he said looking down at the Pokegear, and then sighed. "I can't do this alone, I need Dratini. We are a team after all." Before Ryo could reach Dratini's Pokeball, he heard something running through the fields around him.

He stopped and looked around. The creature began running again. "It's probably just a Rattata," he said to himself. He began walking towards the tall grass where he heard the noise.

As soon as he looked, a red and white dog-like Pokemon with black stripes on it's back jumped out and began barking at him. "Cool a Growlithe!" Ryo said and he grabbed Dratini's Pokeball and brought out the serpent.

Ryo pointed his finger at Growlithe and said, "Dratini, Water Gun!" Dratini looked up at Ryo and sprayed him with the attack. "That's not funny!" Ryo yelled and turned to the Growlithe but the Growlithe disappeared.

"Nice going, Dratini. It got away!" Dratini yawned again and fell asleep. Ryo shook his head and returned it into its Pokeball. "Maybe I should start by catch a Nidoran or something," he said, curiously looking around.

There was another noise of a pokemon running in the field. Ryo grinned and said, "It's gotta be that Growlithe again." He tucked the Pokeball away and crept towards the area where the Growlithe jumped out and he pounced into it. When he landed, he looked up and saw the most beautiful thing.

A large, blue and violet, dog-like Pokemon with a large shield-like plate on the top of its head, was standing in front of him, two long tails whipping in the wind. It began to move slowly towards Ryo and pushed it's head at his pack.

I think he wants me to bring out Dratini, Ryo thought. He pulled out Datini's ball and released Dratini. The dog-like Pokemon roared loudly and vanished. "What was that?" asked Ryo and the Dragon Pokemon smiled at him and began singing gleefully and Ryo's eyes began to shut until he fell asleep.

XDDD Ryo got blasted with Water Gun. *points, laughing* *shot*

I like your ending, where Dratini sings him to sleep. <33

Kaiser - August 24, 2006 06:50 PM (GMT)
Heh, thanks. Here's chapter 3 and 4.

Chapter 3: Ryo's First Battle! Vs. Venomoth!

Ryo woke up leaning against a tree in the evening. He looked around to see where he was. "What was that thing?" he whispered to himself and looked to his right; where Dratini was curled on the ground, asleep. He shook Dratini lightly.

"Did anything happen to you?" Ryo asked as Dratini's eyes opened. Dratini looked up at him, opened its mouth, and shot a burst of water again. "Yep, same old Dratini."

Dratini yawned again and fell back asleep. Ryo looked around, and then took out his Pokegear. "By the looks of things, we're in the Viridian Forest. The Pokemon must have carried us here. Maybe by midnight we will make it to Pewter City and tomorrow we can face off against Brock!" Ryo said and he stood up and returned Dratini into its ball and followed the path through the Viridian Forest.

The sun soon set and the sounds of Bug Pokemon filled the night and the buzzing of Beedrill filled the sky. Ryo knew of Beedrill from his earlier childhood. When he was eight years old he went into the Viridian Forest with his mother to study the Bug Pokemon the lived there and he saw a family of Kakuna and when he went up to them to see them, they all evolved into an army of Beedrill and chased Ryo until his mother found him and scared the Beedrill with her Flareon. After that, Ryo never wanted to go back into the forest until he got his starter Pokemon.

We're almost there already, he thought, This journey has been going by fast. If I keep up at this rate, I finish this region in no time!

As he progressed through the forest, something ran through the bushes. Ryo turned to face it and began to walk towards the bushes. When he approached it, a boy in a straw hat jumped out and said loudly, "Are you a Trainer?"

"Yes..." Ryo said nervously.

"The names Nick. Wanna have a quick battle?"

"Alright," Ryo said and pulled out Dratini's Pokeball.

Nick pulled out a Pokeball from his belt and threw it yelled, "Go, Beedrill!

In a burst of light, a large bee with two drills in place of arms and a large stinger on its abdomen

"Go, Dratini!" Ryo said throwing his Pokeball and Dratini burst out of the ball, still fast asleep.

Nick snickered and said, "Beedrill, use Aerial Ace!" Beedrill dove towards the ground and flew straight towards Dratini at full speed, just like Winona's Fearow did in their battle.

"Dratini, use Thunder Wave!" Ryo yelled. Dratini yawned and shot a small blast of lightning, but Beedrill moved to the left, dodging the attack, and made direct contact with Dratini in the chest. Ryo gritted his teeth. "Dratini, use Wrap!"

Dratini wrapped it's tail around Beedrill and began to squeeze it as tight as it could. "Dratini, use Thunder Wave!" Ryo yelled and the serpent shot another blast of lightning in close contact, paralyzing Beedrill.

"Beedrill, return," Nick said, returning Beedrill into it's ball and threw out another Pokeball, "Go, Venomoth!"

In another burst of light, a large, purple moth appeared out of Nick's Pokeball. "Venomoth, use Hyper Beam!" The moth rose into the air and shot an orange beam, knocking Dratini out in one hit.

"Dratini, are you okay?" Ryo asked scooping the serpent up into his arms. Tears began to drip down Ryo's cheeks as Dratini gave out a weak cry.

"Draa..."

Nick ran up to them and bent over. "Is that your only Pokemon?" Ryo nodded. Nick said and said, "Man, I'm sorry. I thought you would've been a tough opponent when I saw that Dratini. I'm heading for Cinnabar Island for my seventh Gym Badge. Pewter City is only less then a mile away, so I hope Dratini will be alright."

Ryo smiled and said, "Thanks. I hope you do well at you final two Gyms."

Nick smiled as well. "And if we meet up at the Indigo Plateau, you better have more then one Pokemon, and we can a rematch."

"Yeah. But before then, you better take care of Dratini. I'll be seeing you." Nick returned Venomoth into it's Pokeball and began to head south as Ryo and Dratini ran north towards Pewter City.

Chapter 4, Shannon
Ryo start to see the houses of Pewter City as he ran to find a Pokemon Center. Dratini opened one eye.

"Draa," it cried weakly.

Ryo's eyes widened and he looked down at the injured pokemon and said, "That was the first time you said anything to m-"

"Man!" A voice weakly screeched close by.

Ryo looked towards the area the screech came from. "I don't have time for this!" he said and he ran towards the the screech. An injured Mankey was lying on the sidewalk. Ryo looked around, trying to see if anyone would be around. The streets were empty.

Ryo moved Dratini to one of his arms and picked up the Mankey and placed on top of his pack so it can hold onto his shoulders. He stood up straight and pulled out his Pokegear from his pocket. There was a red square on the map, showing where the Pokemon Center was.

"It's just north from here," he said and he started to run again towards the location.

The town was dark when he finally found the Pokemon Center. It was a large, red building full of Chansey. Ryo ran inside the building and said to a woman with bright pink hair and a pink dress, "These two pokemon need healing, fast!"

The woman looked down at the pokemon and said in shock, "My goodness! What happened to them?"

Ryo bent down to catch his breath and said, "Dratini is weak because of a battle I had in the Viridian Forest. I don't know what happened to the Mankey. I just found it in the middle of the road."

The woman took the two pokemon from his arms and called out, "Chansey," and a large pink pokemon with a pouch on it's stomach with an egg inside walked out, pushing a large cart. The woman placed the two pokemon onto the cart and and the pink pokemon, Chansey, walked off to the back room.

"You may have a seat over there," she said pointing to a couch, "I'll show you to the room that you can stay in for the night when your pokemon are fully healed." She walked towards the back room where the Chansey went and said, "By the way, my name is Nurse Joy," and she left the room.

Ryo walked to the couch and sighed. The Pokemon Center was almost empty. There was a group of trainer in the corner talking. Ryo picked up a magazine with the title "Pokemon News" off a small table. A picture of a man in black with a large "R" on his shirt was on the front page with the words, "Wanted! Team Rocket Administrator, Chronos".

Ryo read the main article a few pages after.

Today, Team Rocket has taken over the Silph Co. in Saffron City. There are Team Rocket grunts in the city, kidnapping the city's people as hostage. The Administrator of Team Rocket as taken the Silph Co. president hostage and stole his own invention, the Master Ball.

The Master Ball is the world's ultimate Pokeball that is able to capture any pokemon without fail. The police believe that Team Rocket will use the Master Ball to capture the legendary pokemon Jira-

Before he could finish reading a someone said, "Long time no see, Ryo." A girl his age, with long brown hair and wore a light blue shirt and a red shorts stood in front of him. A green pokemon with a horn on it's head sat on her shoulder.

"I'm sorry, but do I know you?" Ryo said putting the magazine back on the table.

The girl giggled and said, "It's me, Shannon. Remember? We used to play together when we were younger."

Ryo thought for a moment and said, "I remember you now!"

Before he could say anything, Nurse Joy walked out of the back room, holding a Pokeball and Ryo's Dratini. Ryo walked over to the counter and bowed, saying, "Thank you so much," and he took Dratini and the Pokeball from her hands.

"So your started was Dratini?" Shannon asked. Ryo nodded, placing the Pokeball onto his belt.

Shannon giggled again and said, "I started out with little Larvitar here," She took the green pokemon off her shoulder and showed it to him. "My dad gave it to me for my birthday a few days ago. He caught it while hiking in Mt. Silver in the Johto region."

Ryo examined it and said, "My grandpa gave Dratini to me for my birthday yesterday, and today I found a Mankey, do I guess it's my new pokemon."

He took the pokeball Nurse Joy gave him and released Mankey. Shannon put Larvitar down and said, "You can meet with Ryo's pokemon if you like."

Larvitar smiled and yelled, "Larvi," with joy and ran to Dratini and Mankey. Shannon and Ryo sat back onto the couch and watched their pokemon play.

"So, what have you been doing on your journey?" Shannon asked.

"Not much. I've only battled one trainer and lost. He turned out to be heading to the Indigo Plateau to face the Elite Four."

Shannon laughed. "I've beaten three trainers with Larvitar alone. I haven't lost yet," Ryo sighed. "So, are you here to face the gym leader Brock?"

Ryo nodded. Nurse Joy soon walked up to them and said, "Pardon me, your rooms are ready."

Ryo and Shannon stood up and called their pokemon, and followed Nurse Joy. "Here's your room, Ryo," she said opening a door in the center of the hall. He smiled and he, Mankey, and Dratini, which was around his neck, walked into the room.

The room was small and had a bunk-bed. He noticed a computer with a phone on a desk at the end of the room when he walked closed the door. He walked over to it, placing Dratini on the bed, and sat down in front of the computer.

He picked up the phone and typed in his home phone number and his sister Winona appeared on the screen, half asleep.

"Ryo? Do you know what time it is?" she said rubbing her eyes. Ryo glanced at the top of the screen, where a clock was. 1:45 AM, it said. Ryo sighed.

Sorry. I fell asleep in the Viridian Forest from some wierd blue pokemon and now I'm in Pewter City. Oh, and I got a Mankey,"

Winona looked at him, her eyes half closed, and said, "That's great. How did you catch it?"

Ryo froze for a second and said nervously, "I didn't exactly catch it. I found it in the road and took it to the Pokemon Center and Nurse Joy gave my a Pokeball with him in it,"

Winona yawned. "Well, as long as you got it fair and square. I gotta get back to sleep. I'm heading back to Hoenn in the morning. You better do the same if your wanting to face Brock tomorrow."

Ryo smiled slightly and said, "Your right. G'night."

Winona waved and the screen went black. Ryo put the phone back and slowly crawled into the bed, thinking about the gym battle tomorrow.... And the mysterious blue pokemon.

Chronos. XDDDDDDDDDD *dead*

Yeah, I can imagine him as a Team Rocket member. >33 Good job. Is Ryo going to catch that Mankey? =D

Kaiser - August 24, 2006 08:01 PM (GMT)
I'm still trying to decide. I keep thinking that he should give it to some guy in that dojo in Saffron City in the games.

Axphear - August 25, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
It's good I like is Ryo going to defeat kanto before he battles Winona?

Kaiser - August 25, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
Yup. It's going to go like in the show, except I'm not putting in the Orange Islands. That series bored me. But I'm going to try to put in the region from D/P.

Is this ever going to continue? I hate it when fanfics get left "hanging"...

The occasional spelling error bored me--and a few other things (like Ryo related to Winona+the fact that it had to start at Pewter City...)

Well, you should keep going. Overall, I liked it so far. ^_^

Kaiser - September 6, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
Thanks. Yes I'm going to continue. But it's hard writing five fanfics (this, an LoZ one, some KH thing, Yugioh, etc) all at once, then theres a practice book I'm trying to write, and I can only write Mondays, Thursdays, and in Fall, Friday. It's all going really slow.

Kaiser - September 13, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
Sorry for double posting, I know I can edit and put chapter 5 on, but I just want to do it on a post of it's own.

Chapter 5: Vs. Brock
Early next morning, there was a knock on Ryo's door. As he rolled out of the bed, he checked the time on the computer; 6:08. He sighed and opened the door.

"Hey, Ryo!" It was Shannon. "I just wanted to stop by so I could give you this," she handed him a disc case, "That's a TM Case. You can hold Technical Machines in them. Well, I'm off to Cerulean City, see you later."

She smiled at him, waved, and walked down the hallway, her Larvitar following her closely. Ryo yawned and sighed as Shannon yelled down the hall, "Good luck against Brock!"

Ryo looked inside the case as he closed the door. A orange disc was inside labeled "TM 45". Before he could open it, something began to move behind him.

Mankey yawned, sitting on the top bunk, with a stressed look on it's face. "Good morning, Mankey," Ryo said, trying to be just as perky as Shannon. Mankey's expression didn't change.

Ryo sighed again, and faced the curled up Dratini on the foot of his bed. "I guess we should have breakfast and try to wake up some more, then we'll try to battle Brock."

He walked to Dratini and lightly shook him awake. Dratini gave a "Dra" of a yawn, and opened it's eyes fully, giving Ryo his morning Water Gun in he face.

"Good morning to you, too," Ryo said, picking Mankey up from out of the top bunk. "At least your ready for the gym battle," he looked at Mankey, "but I don't know what moves you know."

He put the round pig-monkey and walked to the computer, clicked on a program called "Pokemon Info" and typed in "Mankey". Rows of data appeared on the screen. What food it likes to eat, where to catch the most of them, and it's attack list.

"It says you start off learning Scratch and Leer," he said, his eyes glued to the screen, "The first attack you learn is Low Kick at level 9."

He took his pokedex out of his pocket and scanned Mankey with a light from the top of it. "Mankey, the Pig-Monkey Pokemon," a computerized voice from the digital encyclopedia said, "Extremely quick with anger. It could be docile one moment, then thrashing away the next instant. When it starts shaking and it's nasal breathing turns rough, it's a sure sign of anger. However, since this happens instantly, there is no time to flee."

Ryo gulped. and looked the image of a Mankey on the Pokedex screen. There was a long green bar and the right of the image, and underneath it it said, "Lv. 6".

Ryo was dressed and in the cafeteria at 8:47, as it said on his PokeGear. On the table in front of them was a plate of scrambled eggs, for Ryo; a plate of bacon, for Mankey; and a bowl of hash browns, for Dratini. The three ate slowly and quietly, except for the snorts, coming from Mankey, but Ryo didn't want to upset him from what he read from the Pokedex.

Ryo twirled his eggs with his fork when Nurse Joy came up and ask him, "How did you sleep?"

"Pretty well," he replied. He looked at Mankey, a bit worried. "But Mankey looked a bit stressed in the morning, I wonder why."

Nurse Joy looked at the Pig-Monkey. "I heard noises during the night from you room. Do you think it could be training itself?"

Ryo shrugged. "When looked in my Pokedex, it said his health was normal."

When the three finished their breakfast, Ryo returned them to their pokeballs and walked towards the gym, where his first gym battle will be.

A few minutes later, he stood in front of a large grey building. Ryo gulped and knocked on the large stone door. A young man, a few years older then he, stood in front of him. His hair was dark brown, and spiked up.

"Are you here for a gym battle?" he asked. Ryo slowly nodded.

"Alright, I'm the leader of the gym, Brock's the name."

Ryo smiled slightly, trying not to look nervous. "I'm Ryo."

Brock let him into the building and said as they were going to the arena, "So, Ryo, how many pokemon do you have?"

Ryo gulped again, hoping Brock wasn't expecting him to have more than two pokemon.

"Two," he said nervously.

"That's good. I only have two as well."

When he finished talking, they were in the middle of the arena. Brock moved to the middle of the arena and called, "Hey, Dad! We need you to be the ref for the gym battle!"

Minutes later, an old man walk out a door. The man resembled Brock, just older and grayer. Children poured out of doors on the stands above, all of them resembling Brock as well, ready to watch the battle. The old man picked up two flags off the ground and raised them high into the air.

"The match against the Pewter City gym leader and..."

"Ryo," Brock whispered, trying not to embarrass the challenger.

"And the challenger, Ryo!"

Both Brock and Ryo pulled out a pokeball.

"Go, Geodude!" Brock yelled and a levitating rock creature with arms appeared from the ball's light.

"Go, Mankey!" The pig-monkey pokemon appeared from the flash of light.

"Let the match begin!"

"Geodude, Defense Curl!" A dark light appeared around the rock creature as it crossed it's arms.

"Mankey, use Scratch!" Mankey ran at Geodude, but instead of scratching it, it kicked it. Ryo's eyes widened.

"The Pokedex said it was level 6 and it doesn't learn Low Kick until..." Ryo stood in shock. "Maybe Mankey knows Mega Kick."

Geodude fell to the ground, but not severely injured, from the Defense Curl.

"Geodude, use Rock Throw!"

Geodude began to grab rocks from around the arena and throw them at Mankey.

"Mankey, try to dodge!" Mankey ignored him and ran towards the rocks, striking the with it's fists.

Ryo continued to watched as he destroyed the rocks with it's bare hands. That's Brick Break? But I didn't teach it that attack."

When Mankey got close to Geodude, it kicked it in the side of the head, knocking it out. "The winner is Ryo's Mankey!"

Mankey backed up until he was in front of Ryo as Brock threw the pokeball for his second pokemon.

"Go, Onix!"

A large snake made completely of rocks appeared from the pokeball's burst of light.

"The second round! Mankey vs. Onix!"

"Onix, use Rock Tomb!"

The rock snake hit the ground with it's tail, sending more rocks then Geodude threw at Mankey.

"Mankey, use Brick Break to destroy the rocks!" Ryo yelled.

The pig-monkey ran at the rocks and began to break them, just like before, but before it destroyed one, several began to pelt Mankey and soon, Mankey was buried under a pile of rocks.

Ryo gasped and began calling out to it. "The winner is Brock's Onix!"

The rock snake roared as Ryo raised Mankey's pokeball, sucking the pig-monkey back in. "Good job, Mankey. You fought well."

Ryo put Mankey's pokeball back onto his belt and threw the other one, yelling, "Go, Dratini!"

The serpent appeared, but this time awake. "How do you have a rare pokemon like Dratini?" Brock asked looking at the serpent.

"It's my starting pokemon. My grandparents gave it for me three days ago for my birthday."

Brock smiled. "This should be interesting then. Onix, use Tackle!"

Onix charged at Dratini, but Dratini shot a burst of water as Ryo yelled, "Water Gun!"

The water knocked Onix down. Brock smiled slightly. "A Dratini that knows Water Gun. That's clever!"

"Thanks!" Ryo said, smiling joyfully. "Dratini, use another Water Gun!"

Dratini shot another blast of water at Onix, knocking it out faster then the battle with Geodude.

"The victor of the battle is Ryo!" The old man yelled. All the kids around the gym yelled and booed until Brock told them to calm down.

"Congratulations!" he said, walking up to Ryo. "Was this your first gym?"

Ryo nodded. "Well, then, big congrats! From this badge, you are now preparing yourself for the Pokemon League."

Brock froze when he reached into his pocket. "The badge! Where is it?"

The old man began to laugh. "That was a test." He pulled the badge out of his pocket and handed it to Ryo.

"Before you leave, here's a special TM, Rock Tomb." Brock handed Ryo a brown disc. "You should teach it to Mankey. That would make it pretty stronger."

Ryo smiled and slid the disc into his pocket and put the badge into his vest. "The next gym is in Cerulean City, which is just past from Mt. Moon."

Ryo nodded and left the gym and began to head back to the Pokemon Center.

That was pretty good! The battle against Onix went a little fast though. Maybe you should of put more detail there. But still, this is the best fanfic I've read in while. Maybe I should start my own. . .

Sorry I haven't posted in two months and a day (sorry if there's a thread reviving rule here). I haven't written much of the next chapter. I'm really behind in all my writing, so I haven't started editting it yet. Anyway, I'm going to start making sprite illustrations, so far I just have Chapter 1 done. Tell me what you think.

Sorry for double posting. After seven and a half hours, I finally got the 6th chapter finished. Oh, and I editted chapter 1, finally.

Chapter 6: Catch Growlithe! Vs. Raticate

Nurse Joy handed Ryo Mankey and Dratini's pokeballs after healing them.

"Is something wrong?" she ask.

"When I used Mankey against Brock, it knew Mega Kick and Brick Break-"

Before he finished, Nurse Joy sighed. "When you brought Mankey in yesterday, there was a note tied to her leg,"

Ryo went silent, from finding out Mankey was a girl and about the note and released the small pig-monkey out of it's Pokeball. Joy pulled out a note from under the counter and handed it to him.

Dear who ever this may concern,
I am one of the hostages here in Saffron City. I am Kiyo of the martial art gym by Saffron gym. I sent this Mankey for Viridian City, but I doubt she made it. I currently am trying to escape from Team Rocket, but if I don't, please take care of this Mankey.

Ryo sighed when he finished reading and looked at Mankey and she looked up at him. "Oh, that's right!" Ryo said, remembering the disc Brock gave him and showed it to Nurse Joy. "Brock gave me this disc, saying it's something called a TM."

"Yes, that's a special TM that you can only get through Gym battles. There's a large department store in Celadon City that sells some kinds of TMs. That TM contains Rock Tomb, which can lower the opponent Pokemons' speed and does massive damage."

When Nurse Joy finished Ryo pulled off his backpack and pulled out the TM Case that Shannon gave him this morning. "Shannon gave this to me this before I went to battle Brock, along with this TM."

Nurse Joy smiled again and said, "That's TM 45, Attract. What that attack does is make the opponent Pokemon fall in love with the user, which might stop it from attacking for a while."

Ryo looked at the two discs for a moment and asked, "How do I teach these TM's to my Pokemon?"

Ryo put the case onto the counter, along with the two discs. Nurse Joy took the disc that contained Rock Tomb and opened up a compartment on the side of the case and slid the brown disc in. "The disc holds a sound wave only Pokemon can hear. Before we start, what move are you going to let Mankey forget?"

Ryo thought for a moment. Mankey knew four moves, Brick Break, Mega Kick, Low Kick, and Leer. "I suppose Leer," Ryo replied, knowing Leer won't do much in battle.

All right," Nurse Joy said. Mankey looked up at the case as the disc began to spin. In a moment, there was a poof sound. "There, that's all there is to it. Mankey now knows Rock Tomb."

Ryo smiled at Mankey and then at Nurse Joy and then said, "Thanks very much for all your help," he stood up, returning Mankey into it's ball and putting the TM Case back onto his backpack, "I'm start heading to Cerulean City."

"The quickest way there is by going through Mt. Moon. You can find a path to the east of Pewter City," Nurse Joy bowed and handed Ryo the letter from Mankey's real owner. Ryo walked out of the Pokemon Center, waving back to Nurse Joy, and began to head east towards Mt. Moon.

As Ryo approached the base of the mountain half an hour later, the sun slowly began to set and the moon began to rise. He wasn't used to walking alone in the dark, especially through the wilderness. He put his hand in his vest pocket and pulled out Dratini's Pokeball and released it onto his shoulder. The serpent-like Pokemon appeared in a burst of light around his shoulders, it's tail running down his chest.

"Dra," it cried and looked at Ryo.

"I know it's late, but we need to get to the next Gym. We can sleep when we get to the Pokemon Center in-" Before he finished, he saw a small red dog, drinking out of a small spring. "It's that Growlithe!" he whispered and he began to walking closer.

After a few seconds, the Growlithe stopped drinking and looked up at Ryo and ran off towards the entrance of Mt. Moon, with Ryo running after it. "I've got to catch that Growlithe!" he muttered under his breath.

The only light within the cave was from the moon from the small wholes above. As Ryo progressed through the cave, the sound of a human running came in. Someone was following him. After fifteen minutes passed, Growlithe was nowhere to be found.

"Great," Ryo whispered to Dratini, "we lost it." Ryo took Dratini off of his shoulders and sat against the cave wall, putting the serpent on his lap. "I guess we could sleep for a few minutes."

Ryo took out his Pokegear and and set an alarm for twenty minutes, slid it back into his pocket, and the two went to sleep.

* * *

Ryo's eyes slowly opened when the alarm from his Pokegear's alarm went off, and froze when seven figures stood before him. Four men and three women, all in blank clothes with a large red "R" in the middle of their sweaters, and a small "R" on their hats.

"W-who are you and what do you want?" Ryo said, pulling the sleeping Dratini on his lap closer.

The figures snickered and one said, "We are Team Rocket. Our boss sent us here to capture a family of Clefairy and Clefable, and Moon Stones to evolve 'em. Now tell us, what are you doing here?"

Ryo backed closer to the wall and said, "I'm heading to Cerulean City through here and there's a Growlithe I'm following to catch."

The man, who obviously the group's leader, laughed. "We're following that Growlithe, too. He seems to have a connection with the Clefairy."

Ryo gritted his teeth. "You'll never catch them!"

The figures laughed and one muttered to three of them, "Don't let him out of your site," and he and three others walked off. The three remaining figures put they're hands in their pockets and released three Pokemon, one a purple snake, one a small brown bird, and the other a dark blue bat.

"Don't even think of escaping," one of the women said. Ryo gritted his teeth again and looked down at Dratini, who was awake at the moment.

Ryo put his hand into his vest pocket and pulled out Mankey's Pokeball and yelled, "Go Mankey!" and the pig-monkey appeared behind the Team Rocket members. "Mankey, go find that Growlithe and be sure that it and the Clefairy are unharmed!" Mankey nodded and ran down the moonlit cave.

"Go after it!" the woman yelled and one of the men ran with the snake not too far behind and the woman said "Your in trouble, runt. Spearow, use Peck!"

The brown bird, Spearow launched towards Ryo. "Dratini, use Thunder Wave!"
Dratini shot a small blast of electricity out of it's mouth and Spearow dropped to the ground; paralyzed. "Use Water Gun!" and the serpent shot a burst of water out of it's mouth and the same thing that happened to Winona's Fearow, happened to the woman's Spearow.

The third man walked in with his bat Pokemon. "Zubat, use Leech Life!" The blue bat flew at Dratini, beginning to suck out Dratini's energy.

Ryo grinned and said, "Dratini, use Twister!" Dratini balanced on the tip of it's tail and began to spin, blocking Zubat's attack, and knocking Zubat out. Ryo lifted up Dratini and ran the way Mankey went.

"Oh, right," he said, and he pulled his Pokedex out of his backpack and scanned Spearow and Zubat.

"Zubat, the Bat Pokemon. Zubat forms colonies in perpetually dark places and uses ultrasonic waves in place of eyes, to identify and approach targets."

"Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokemon. Spearow busily flits around grassy areas and eats the bugs that reside there. It has to flap its short wings at high speed to stay air born. Even if it is frail, it can be a tough foe that uses Mirror Move."

After the encyclopedia scanned the two Pokemon, Ryo put it back into his backpack, as well as Dratini with it's head sticking out, and ran off. Ryo ran through the cave as fast as he could, until he tripped on a small, white stone, causing him to fall on the hard cave interior. He stood up and brushed the small rocks off his scratched skin and lifted up the white stone that he tripped on.

The moon light reflected off of the stone, making it glow lightly. "This most be the Moon Stone," Ryo whispered to himself.

"Mankey!!" a voice echoed down the cave. Ryo jumped from the sound, and stuffed the Moon Stone into his backpack and ran towards the crying.

After a few minutes passed as Ryo ran through the cave, he entered a large clearing where there was a large stone in the center. Ryo could see the four remaining Team Rocket members, as well as Ryo's Mankey, the Growlithe, and four pink Pokemon, the Clefairy's, it's evolve form Clefable, and a small Pokemon that resembled Clefairy. Ryo pulled the serpent out of his backpack and carried him to the stone and yelled, "What did you do to Mankey?"

The four Team Rocket members turned to him, two of the women had a blue Pokemon with four small petals and four orange leaves, and one of the men with yellow, armored mouse-like Pokemon. "You again?" the leader of the group said.

Ryo ran to Mankey, who was crying weakly. "Your little monkey was no problem for our Pokemon," the leader said, crossing his arms. Ryo glared at him and stood up in front of Growlithe, where the four Fairy Pokemon shook in fear.

"Your never going to take them. This is their territory and you can't take them away from it!" Ryo yelled. Dratini squirmed over to him stood next to him and Mankey stood up weakly on the other side. The Team Rocket members snickered as the other three approached them.

"You're out numbered, you brat. It's time that I use my strongest Pokemon," the leader pulled a Pokeball out of his pocket and yelled, "Go, Raticate," and in a burst of light, a large, light brown rat appeared in front of him. Ryo glared at him as the other Team Rocket members returned their Pokemon into their balls.

"Dratini, us-" Ryo started, but before his command came out, the Growlithe walked in front of them and barked something at Ryo. He nodded at the dog-like Pokemon and it shot a blast of fire at the rat.

"Raticate, use Hyper Fang!" Raticate ran at Growlithe, showing it's large front fangs, and dodged the fire, and knocked Growlithe down. Ryo watched quietly as the dog shot another blast of fire, this time, knocking the rat down.

"Raticate, use another Hyper Fang!" And again, the rat ran at Growlithe, but this time, Growlithe knocked Raticate down and began biting its leg, and then shot another blast of fire at the rat, knocking it out.

"Dratini, knock these thieves out of here!" Ryo yelled, "use Twister!" Dratini stood up onto the tip of its tail and began to spin, sucking the seven members of Team Rocket, and shot them out of the opening in the roof, sending them into the distance.

The Clefairy family behind Ryo began to jump in joy, with cheers of:

"Clefairy."

"Clefable."

And from the small Pokemon, "Cleffa."

The Growlithe ran up to the family and licked the small one. Ryo crouched down to Mankey and pulled out a small spray bottle out of his backpack and spray the pig-monkey three times, until all Mankey's wounds healed. The two Clefairys began jump around Ryo and his two Pokemon, and Growlithe, healing them. Once Growlithe was healed, it ran to Ryo and began to bark at him gleefully, as well as wagging its tail.

"Do you want to join our team?" Ryo asked, petting its head. Growlithe nodded. Ryo smiled and stood up, pulling an empty Pokeball out of his backpack. "Go, Pokeball!" he yelled and in a burst of light, Growlithe was sucked into the Pokeball and it began to shake, until there was a click sound, showing Growlithe was caught.

Ryo's smile widened as he lifted the Pokeball and released Growlithe out of it. The dog barked gleefully at Ryo and Mankey and Dratini let out cries of joy. Ryo then turned to the Clefairy family, who were still jumping around them with joy, until the Clefable stopped and hopped in front of them and raised its fingers and began to sing,

"Clefable. Clefable. Clefa-" And Ryo, and his three Pokemon fell asleep.

What happened to the Ekans?
And (I'm going to feel stupid once someone answers this): What were the armored rat and the blue leafy one? Was the second one an oddish?

Kaiser - November 27, 2006 03:13 AM (GMT)
Dang, I forgot to put it back in. Oh well, I'm going to edit it soon anyway. The armored rat was suppose to be a Sandshrew and the blue leafy one was a Gloom. I guess I should of made it more clear.

Eievui - December 13, 2006 01:39 AM (GMT)
And I thought the armored rat was Raticate. Anyway, keep up the good work!

I finally got Chapter 7 done.

Chapter Seven: Battle on the Bridge! Vs. Lickitung!

Ryo's eyes burst open, realizing he was outside the cave. Dratini, Mankey, and Growlithe leaned against him, still asleep from the Clefable's song. He noticed that the moon was still above in the night sky when he stood up to stretch. Ryo pulled out his Pokegear to check the time and how far Cerulean City was.

3:21 AM and 1 1/2 miles. Ryo sighed and put it away and returned his three sleeping Pokemon into their balls to rest, and began to follow the path to get to Cerulean City, and to a Pokemon Center, as fast as possible. After forty-five minutes passed, Ryo began to see the lights of Cerulean City. He sighed and continued through the path.

* * *

Ryo looked up at the starless sky and sighed. He grabbed a Pokeball and tossed it in the air. Growlithe appeared in a burst of light, more lively then it was an hour ago. It looked up at him and barked gleefully, its tail wagging violently.

Ryo smiled the best he could at it and pulled his Pokedex out and scanned it.

Growlithe, the Puppy Pokemon. Growlithe has a superb sense of smell. Once it smells anything, this Pokemon won't forget the scent, no matter what. It uses its sense of smell to detect the emotions of others.

Ryo grinned a bit. He was glad, after what it said about Mankey, that this Pokemon was friendly. Beside the image said it was level 16 and full health, as well as its four attacks: Ember, Bite, Roar, and Odor Sleuth. Ryo started walking again, with Growlithe be his side, but soon he stopped at the edge of a hill. "Growlithe, have there been any more people that were dressed in black inside Mt. Moon?"

Growlithe nodded its head. "What about a girl. Did a girl with brown hair and dressed in blue and a red sweat shirt around her waist go by?" Growlithe sat down for a moment to think and then shook its head.

Ryo sighed again and the two continued walking. Ryo was glad that the Pokemon Center was near the Gym in Cerulean City. He planned on battling the leader the next day. But for now, he needed to rest. He entered the city, this time more people were wake, but mainly the police, probably watching guard for Team Rocket.

The glass doors slid open as Ryo and Growlithe walked into the Pokemon Center. The Chansey was sleeping on the couch by the door, snoring loudly, and Nurse Joy was asleep, resting her chin on her palm. Ryo quietly walked up to her and tapped her lightly on the shoulder. She jumped and said nervously, "Welcome to the Pokemon Center."

She looked at Ryo and then down at Growlithe. "Are you here to spend the night, or just to heal your Pokemon?"

"I'd like to spend the night," he said. Nurse Joy yawned and walked around the desk and led him to a room down the hall. The room was the same as in Pewter City, except there was only one bunk-bed. Nurse Joy bowed to him and closed the door to the room after he walked in.

Growlithe hopped onto the foot of the bottom bunk and curled up. Ryo released Dratini out of its ball and beside Growlithe on the bottom bunk and released Mankey on the top bunk, just like in Pewter City. He soon took off his backpack and his green vest and dropped them on the floor, slid his shoes off, crawled into the bed, and went to sleep almost instantly.

* * *

Ryo woke up when he felt Growlithe and Dratini on his chest, trying to get him up. The two Pokemon jumped of the bed and Ryo pulled the blanket off, pulled his jacket and backpack on, slid his feet into his black and red sneakers, and returned his three Pokemon into their balls and left his room. He decided to skip breakfast today so he could train his Pokemon. He waved to Nurse Joy when he left the Pokemon Center and pulled his Pokegear out of his backpack and turned it on. A map of Cerulean City appeared on the screen.

Ryo began to head north, where a bridge, as seen on his Pokegear, that crossed a river to a large field. He smiled and started towards the bridge. The river below the bridge was calm. As Ryo crossed the bridge, he could see figures of Pokemon and hear the shouts of their trainers on the other side, which made him want to get across it even more.

The only thing that made Ryo a bit upset was the sky. Dark clouds were coming, as he saw in his Pokegear, and it was going to rain by nightfall. He sighed and then sat at the side of the bridge and let his legs hang off over the river. He pulled a chocolate bar from his backpack and released his three Pokemon.

Ryo smiled at them and they smiled back and he pulled off the wrapper of the chocolate bars and broke it into four pieces, handing three of them to his Pokemon and eating the last one. Growlithe hopped onto his lap and Mankey onto his head, and Dratini slithered around his waist and laid next to him. He knew he wouldn't get much training done today, and since he's been wanting to get all the badges to much, he decided to take a quick break for the day. He began to pet Growlithe until a girl came up to him.

"So you finally made it to Cerulean City," she said. Ryo turned around and Shannon stood there, smiling with her Larvitar on her shoulder, smiling as well. Ryo smiled back and then turned back to the river. "So I see you have a new Pokemon."

Ryo nodded, still not saying anything. "I have a new Pokemon as well," she said. Ryo's eyes widened. He knew where this was going. "so, you want to have a battle?"

Ryo jumped up, almost dropping Growlithe into the river. "Okay!" he responded, eagerly. Shannon smiled and the two walked to the center of the bridge and Shannon pulled her other Pokeball up and Larvitar dropped in front of her, ready to battle.

"Just to make it interesting, lets have a double battle!" Shannon said. The moment she said that, many of the trainers close by turned their attention to her and Ryo. "The rules for a double battle are we each use two Pokemon only and have to use team work to defeat our opponent. I heard its really popular in Hoenn."

Ryo grinned. "Alright. I will use Dratini and Growlithe!" Mankey hopped off his shoulder and Growlithe and Dratini moved in front of him.

"Alright. I'll use Larvitar and Lickitung!" Shannon said and she threw her second Pokeball out and in a burst of light, a pink colored creature with crescent-like patterns on its stomach, a long tongue and a large, puffy tail appeared.

"What is that?" Ryo said and he pulled out his Pokedex.

"Lickitung, the Licking Pokemon. Whenever Lickitung comes across something new, it will unfailingly give it a lick. It does so because it memorizes things by texture and by taste. It is somewhat put off by sour things."

Ryo's body shuddered as he put his Pokedex away. "Why did you catch something like that?"

Shannon smiled. "Because, he needed someone and besides," she gave it a hug and it wrapped its tongue around her, "its just so cute!"

Ryo shuddered again. Shannon let go of her Pokemon and backed up. "Alright, lets start! Larvitar, use Sandstorm! Lickitung, use Body Slam!"

Larvitar began to spin, creating a tornado of sand around them and Lickitung jumped into the air and drop down towards Growlithe and Dratini. "Dodge it!"

Growlithe and Dratini hopped out of the way and Lickitung slammed into the ground. "Dratini, use Water Gun on Larvitar! Growlithe, use Flame Wheel on Lickitung!"

Dratini shot a burst of water at Larvitar and Growlithe ran towards Lickitung and a burst of fire covered it. "Larvitar, use Protect!"

A golden barrier appeared around her Larvitar, blocking the attack, but Lickitung not being so lucky, due to Growlithe's Flame Wheel. "Larvitar, use Rock Tomb, Lickitung, use Slam! Both on Growlithe!"

The sandstorm stopped and all the sand around them fell, turning into large clumps, like rocks, and Larvitar began to kick them towards Growlithe, as Lickitung raised its tongue and slammed it on Growlithe before it could dodge.

"No Growlithe!" Ryo yelled. The clumps of sand hit Growlithe, knocking it out. Ryo lifted its Pokeball up. "Return," and in a flash of red light, Growlithe was returned into its ball.

Ryo began to look around his surroundings, in hope of trying to think of something to do to knock out Shannon's two Pokemon. Then he got. "You shouldn't be loose focus during a Pokemon battle, Ryo. It gives your opponent an upper hand."

Ryo grinned. "Dratini, dive into the water!" he yelled. Dratini slithered towards the side of the bridge and dove off, into the calm river below.

"Why did you do that?" Shannon asked.

"Because, as a trainer you must use your surroundings as well as the battle field. Since Dratini usually live in a water environments, I can use the river as my advantage."

Shannon looked around nervously, until Ryo yelled, "Dratini, use Water Gun!" Dratini shot out of the river and shot a burst of water at Lickitung, knocking it down. "Dratini, use Twister!" Dratini balanced itself onto its tail and began to spin, creating a small tornado around it.

Larvitar and Lickitung began to get sucked in to it, and then the two of them were shot away, knocking them out. Shannon ran to them, returning Lickitung into its Pokeball and lifted Larvitar and placed it on her shoulder. Ryo returned Dratini and Mankey into their balls. "Nice work," Shannon said, patting Larvitar's head.

Ryo smiled at her. "Thanks. Your Larvitar is amazing. It was able to do massive damage to my Growlithe with out moving from its spot, and your Lickitung is a pretty fast Pokemon."

"Thanks," Shannon said, smiling back. "Your Pokemon are pretty good as well. Your Growlithe is pretty fast, especially when it used Flame Wheel. And what you did with your Dratini was amazing. Sending it into the river and attacked my Pokemon from underneath was amazing."

Shannon turned around and began to head down the bridge, and then stopped. "I'm gonna be battling the Gym Leader around noon tomorrow. Do you think you can come by to watch?"

Ryo grinned and said, "Sure! I'm going to try and face the Gym Leader tomorrow as well."

"I heard that their three sisters that are performers as well as trainers. Oh, and they specialize in Water-type Pokemon." She waved back at him and continued to walk down the bridge.

"Later," Ryo said, grinning, then he went to opposite direction. He sat on top of a hill to rest thirty minutes later, watching two boys battling. The one standing on the right had a green bug-like Pokemon with scythes for arms and the one on the left had a large oyster-like Pokemon with a thick, spiked shell.

"Scyther," the one on the right said, "Use Slash!"

"Cloyster," the other said, "Use Protect!"

Scyther, the scythe-armed Pokemon, flew at its full speed towards Cloyster, but a golden barrier, like the one Shannon's Larvitar did, blocked the attack.

"Cloyster, use Withdraw!"

Cloyster closed its shell, increasing its defenses. "Syther," the boy on the right grinned, "Use Sword Dance, then use Cut to wipe Cody's Cloyster out!"

Ryo's eyes widened as Scyther began to glow a crimson color, and then flew towards Cloyster, and then slashed its shell through the center of the side. "That's useless!" the boy on the left, Cody, said. "My Cloyster has more defense then any other Water-type Pokemon!"

The boy on the right grinned. "Maybe. But you might want to take a closer look."

Cody looked at his Pokemon closer and then fell to his knees when Cloyster's shell opened. Syther's Cut attack knocked it out. "That's what separates us. My Pokemon all can wipe Pokemon with high defense with their speed and attack."

"I will beat you seen, Don. I swear."

"Whatever," Don said. He smirked and walked down the path towards the bridge with his Scyther giving out a cry of triumph. "Scy!"

As he walked by, Ryo ran down to him and said, "That was an awesome battle! You beat that guy so-"

"Whatever. Not like you'd know anything about that kind of stuff," Don said. "I saw that battle with you and that Shannon girl, and you just one by luck. There's no way you will make it through this league."

He and his Scyther walked past Ryo. He glared at him. After only a few minutes, Ryo hated Don, and after a few minutes, rain began to start pouring from the sky.

Ooh, that's nice! That Don fellow seems suspicious. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be evil.

As OT fanfiction goes, though... this seems a bit monotonous. I'm not drawn in at all- it's just a trainer with rather overused Pokemon that keeps wiping Team Rocket to the floor. I'd reccommend giving his Pokemon personalities of their own to make them more characters than inanimate objects. But for the most part, this is nice- a decent storyline (if a bit cliche), believable (if again a bit cliche) characters and set nicely in Kanto.

I'd advise three things: One, put more description in the battles and attacks. Two, use apostrophes- they can improve a fiction remarkably. When contracing "it is," Use "It's" instead of "Its". "They are" shortens to "They're". Adjust accordingly.

Three, keep writing! I'm looking forward to seeing the next installment in Ryo's story!

Kaiser - January 7, 2007 05:34 AM (GMT)
Yeah. I kind of based him off of Silver from G/S/C, as well as Sinji from the D/P anime. Thanks for the review! Here's a specialish chapter that is from Shannon's point of view.

Special Chapter: Shannon's Ambition

Shannon sat at a table outside a small building with her Pokemon handbook open on a page with an illustrated picture of a Dratini. "If I need to beat Ryo," she said, "I need to know Dratini's weakness." She turned the page to a picture of a long, dark blue serpent with a white horn on its head, feathered ears, and two crystal balls on its tail, and one on its neck, Dratini's evolve form, Dragonair.

She sighed and turned the page and then stared in shock. There was a picture of a large, orange dragon with two short antenna and a small horn on the top of its head. It was Dratini's final form, Dragonite. She quickly scanned through the page and then gasped.

'If Ryo keeps training his Dratini, it will become this Pokemon. He might be an unbeatable trainer.' she thought. She continued to read, until something caught her eye. A man dressed in white with dark brown hair and a white headband stood behind a large tank full of orange fish-like Pokemon.

"Hey, young lady," he said, "How would you like to buy a Magikarp. Really cheap!"

Shannon put the book away in her bag walked over him and looked into the tank. "I guess. What do Magikarp do?"

"What can't they do. They can evolve into Gyarados, which are powerful Pokemon, and when they lay their golden eggs, you can sell them for a lot of money."

Shannon thought for a moment. "I guess I could use a new partner on my team. I'll take one."

The man smirked. "Wise choice, lass." He handed her a golden Pokeball. "That would b-" Before he could finish, a woman in a blue uniform and hat with a Growlithe beside her stepped in front of Shannon.

"You are under arrest for selling Pokemon illegally!" She raised her badge. The man began to shiver.

"I gotta go!" Then he quickly packed his tank up and ran off, forgetting about the Pokeball he gave Shannon.

The police woman sighed. "Did he sell you a Magikarp?" she asked looking down at Shannon.

Shannon looked down at the Pokeball. "I wouldn't say he sold it. He gave it to me, but I never got the chance to pay for it."

The police sighed again. "Well, I guess you can keep it, or you can give to me to release it back to the wild."

Shannon continued to stare at the golden Pokeball. "I guess I'll hold onto it. I wouldn't mind another partner."

The police smiled. "I'm Officer Jenny," she said, "Like Nurse Joy, I'm part of a large family with identical siblings."

Shannon smiled back and then looked back at the Pokeball. "If you want, I can give you a ride. Where are you heading next?"

"I was going to the Cerulean Gym, but I'm going to wait for a friend of mine before going there. I guess you can take me to the Pokemon Center since my two other Pokemon are there and its not far from the Gym."

"Alright," Officer Jenny said, "Come with me." And she led Shannon to a white motorcycle and got on it. "Hang on," she said and she took off on the road towards the Pokemon Center.

Shannon ran inside when she got to the Pokemon Center and went to the front counter, out of breath. Nurse Joy looked at her and asked, "First time you've rode a motorcycle?" Shannon nodded and smiled. "Would you like your Pokemon back?"

She nodded again and then placed the golden Pokeball on the counter. "May I ask, when Magikarp evolves?"

Nurse Joy smiled. "So, that man sold you a Magikarp as well? He's been doing that for years. But something some people don't understand is that when Magikarp evolve into Gyarados, they are pretty powerful Pokemon."

Shannon smiled. "Then I'm going to get to training it right away!"

Nurse Joy giggled and pulled out a few sheets of sandpaper from under the counter. "Use these on Magikarp's scales. They will keep them smooth, and it will help evolve it."

Shannon took the sandpaper and put it into her bag and took the three Pokeballs and placed them on her belt. As she left, Nurse Joy called to her, "Dragon Pokemon are weakest against Ice Pokemon."

"But how do you-" She began to say, but then she smiled and walked out of the building.

She walked towards the bank of the river north of the Pokemon Center and east of the bridge and released the Magikarp onto her lap when she sat down. The Magikarp began to flop around, in desperate search of water. Shannon pulled out a piece of the sandpaper and began rubbing it on Magikarp's scales.

The fish began to settle down and it closed its eyes. Shannon went through three pieces of sandpaper from rubbing all of Magikarp's scales in the past forty-five minutes, and then, minutes later, Magikarp began to glow, which caused Shannon to toss it into the river, and in a burst from the water a...

Ooo, we have a Gyarados! Great work on both Chapter 7 and the special one. You misspelled 'Scyther', just so you know.

If Don had said that to me, I'd say, "It's not like you're so special. Trainers strive to be good at what they do. Cowards like you are so afraid they'll be better than you so you crush their dreams." But that's just me.

Zephyr - January 7, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
Ooh, not bad. Not bad at all. Still, I do find it rather odd that she evolved the Magikarp just by rubbing it with sandpaper. o_o

Somehow, I have the feeling it's not going to be Gyarados when it evolves.

Kaiser - January 7, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
I know. Its pretty lame. I just wanted to get it out of my head, so I'll rewrite it later. Its also like what happened with James and his Magikarp in the anime. It took me 3 trys to get its name right, which is pretty sad, and in the end, its still mispelled.

Woops! Another mistake! Thanks for pointing it out, and for the review. I'm working on chapter 8, which, hopefully, will be done by tonight, if not, tomorrow.

Edit: Finally got chapter 8 done!

Chapter 8: Cottage of the Pokemon Maniac! Vs. Abra!

Ryo ran down the trail north of Cerulean City, holding his backpack above his head to block the rain. He couldn't stop thinking of what Don said. "My Pokemon are just as good as any other's," he repeated to himself as a tear dripped down his cheek.

He stopped running for a minute to catch his breath and to observe his surroundings. Up ahead was a small, blue roofed cottage with a large satellite dish on top. He soon began ran there as fast as he could, but he couldn't stop looking down at the Pokeballs on his belt. As he approached it, he noticed there were no lights on inside.

He nervously lowered one hand from his hand and knocked the front door. No answer. He knocked it again, and this time a voice yelled out, "I hear you, I hear you!

"I couldn't lock the door due to my current situation. You can come in as long as you can help me!" Ryo slowly opened the door into the cottage and looked around for the owner of the cottage. "Down here!" the voice said again.

Ryo looked down and below him was a Clefairy, but there was something wrong with it. He looked like a normal Clefairy, except it had a human face. "The owner of this house is a Pokemon?" Ryo muttered.

"I'm no Pokemon, boy!" it said. "I was working on an invention of mine, a Pokemon transporter, if you will, and when I was fixing it, my shirt got caught on the door handle to one of the pods and it shut while my Clefairy was in the other pod and I guess the auto timer was turned on. The name's Bill. I've been known as a Pokemon Maniac around here from my knowledge of Pokemon."

Ryo bent over and put one arm on his knee and squinted at Bill to see him more closely. "So what do you want me to do?" he asked. He began to look around the dark cottage.

"Well for starters, you can turn on the lights," Bill said. Ryo nodded and stood up and looked around for the light switch. Seconds later, the cottage was filled with light.

"Okay. What next?"

"Alright," Bill said, "the control pad is over there in between the transporter. I'll go inside the pod and you just need to pull down the switch. Got it?"

Ryo nodded and the two went towards a large machine at the other end of the cottage. When Bill walked into one of the pods, Ryo pulled down the switch. Flashes came out of the small windows in the center of the doors to the pods and then, there was a soft "ding" sound, a man with curly brown hair walked out of one pod, and a Clefairy walked out of the other. "Well, now that I'm human again, you can tell me you are."

"I'm Ryo," he said, watching Clefairy clean the cottage.

"Nice to meet you, Ryo. As I said, I'm Bill, the Pokemon Maniac," The two shook hands. "So, you a Pokemon Trainer?"

"Yeah," Ryo replied, grinning a bit. He took Growlithe, Mankey, and Dratini's Pokeballs up. Bill smirked a bit.

"So, now that I'm back as a human, want to have a battle? It's been years since I last had a battle."

Ryo began to grin, then looked down at his Pokemon, remembering what Don said. "Your on!" he said weakly.

Alright," Bill said. "I'll begin with Clefairy!" The Clefairy that was moving around cleaning the cottage stopped and turned to Bill and hopped over in front of him.

"Alright, I choose Mankey," Ryo said, throwing Mankey's Pokeball up, releasing the Pig-Monkey Pokemon in front of him.

"Fine, I'll begin," Bill said. "Clefairy, use Metronome!"

Clefairy raised two of its fingers and began to chant. "Clefairy, Clefairy," and in an instant, a spinning flame shot from its mouth.

"That's a Fire Spin? How does it know that?" Ryo asked.

Bill chuckled. "Metronome randomly chooses any move, even if the user can't learn it!"

"Mankey, use Rock Tomb to put out those flames!" Ryo yelled. Mankey lowered one leg and raised its two paws. Mankey began to shoot rocks, extinguishing the flames.

"Clefairy, use Water Pulse to destroy the rocks!" Bill yelled. Clefairy jumped into the air and a ball of water appeared in its hand and shot it at the rocks, and Mankey. Mankey flew to the ground once the water attack made contact, and moments later, Mankey's eyes became light blue.

"Mankey, you okay?" Mankey didn't say anything and began to charge at Clefairy.

"Clefairy, use Meteor Mash!" Clefairy's hand curled into a fist and fired a meteor-like punch, knocking Mankey back down.

Ryo raised his Pokemon's Pokeball and said, "Mankey, return!" and in a flash of red light, Mankey was returned into its ball. "Go, Dratini!"

Dratini appeared on the ground, curled up asleep. 'It must be tired from the battle against Shannon,' Ryo thought.

"Where did you get a rare Pokemon like that?" Bill asked. "I've heard only strong trainers can get their hands on a Dratini. How did a rookie trainer like you get your hands on one?"

Ryo sighed. "My grandparents got it to me as my starter Pokemon on my birthday. My grandfather said a friend breeded his Dragonite with his Blastoise and gave him the egg."

"Interesting," Bill replied. "Anyway, lets continue this battle. Clefairy, use Icy Wind!" Clefairy inhaled, then blew a cold wind at the sleeping Dratini, freezing the Dragon Pokemon in a sheet of ice. "Clefairy, use Meteor Mash!"

Clefairy jumped into the air again and fired another meteor-like punch, and broke through the ice. "Dratini, no!" Ryo yelled. Dratini groaned and stood up. Ryo grinned.

"Dratini, use Dragon Rage!" Dratini groaned again, and then shot a small stream of green tinted flames at Clefairy. "That's one of Dratini's newest moves," he said. "it learned it after I won my last battle against my rival, Shannon."

"Nice attack," Bill said. "but Clefairy still has a little bit of kick in 'er. Clefairy, use Metronome!"

Clefairy raised its two fingers again and began to chant. "Clefairy, Clefairy," and the Fairy Pokemon charged at Dratini at its full speed, knocking Dratini and itself out.

"What was that?" Ryo asked, returning Dratini into its ball.

"That was a Double-edge. Its an all or nothing attack that does damage to both the opponent Pokemon, and the user."

"Awesome," Ryo muttered, then he pulled out Growlithe's Pokeball. "Go, Growlithe!" In a flash, Growlithe appeared in a burst of light, more lively then Dratini was.

"Go, my friend, Abra!" Bill yelled and in a flash, a yellow creature that had its eyes closed and its tail curled around its body. "You showed me your starter Pokemon. Well, this one's mine! I never let it evolved since I got it and now I taught it many powerful attacks."

"Alright, then. Lets finish the battle!" Ryo said. "Growlithe, use Flame Wheel!" Growlithe growled, then charged towards Abra, with a flame surrounding it.

"Abra, use Shadow Ball!" Bill said. Abra stood onto its feet and shot a black ball from its mouth at Growlithe.

"Growlithe, destroy it with Ember!" Ryo yelled. Growlithe continued to run with the flames around it and then shot a blast of fire, destroying Abra's Shadow Ball and then rammed Abra to the ground. "Finish it off with Bite!"

Growlithe growled again, then pounced at Abra and bit its tail. "Abra, return!" Bill said. He sighed and looked at the Pokeball. "I'm sorry I haven't used you in years, my dear friend."

He looked up at Ryo, who returned Growlithe into its ball and said, "Good job. You have trained your Pokemon well," he walked up to him and pulled a small piece of blue paper from his pocket. "I was invited to go on the S.S. Anne for a cruise around the world, but since I have a lot of work to do on the transporter, you can have my ticket.

"Think of it as a thank you for helping me with my Clefairy problem, and for teaching me why my Pokemon and I should have trained together more often."

Ryo smiled. "No problem. But there's a favor I need to ask you."

Ryo looked out one of the windows outside. Rain was still pouring down from the dark sky. "Yes, what is it?"

Ryo turned around, grinning, and said, "Can I stay over for the night?"

Sorry its been a while. I have to put all my writing on hiatus for a while. This chapter sucks pretty badly and is pretty rushed. Once school is over, or at least Spring Break comes, I try to edit this chapter, as well as the past few. So here it is.

Chapter 9: The Tomboyish Mermaid! Vs. Seel

Ryo awoke the next morning with Dratini curled beside him. He pulled himself out of the sleeping bag Bill gave him for the night and looked around. Bill was at his desk on the other side of the cottage, typing on the computer. "Bout time you woke up," he said.

Ryo got up and stretched and pulled on his green jacket. "What time is it?" he asked.

"Almost noon," Bill replied.

Ryo stumbled a little and stepped on Dratini's tail. "Dra!" it cried and shot a burst of water out at Ryo.

"I need to get to the Cerulean Gym for Shannon's match!" he yelled. He slipped his feet into his shoes, pulled his backpack up, and returned Dratini into its ball.

"If you want to get down there quickly, take the shortcut around the bridge just south of here," Bill said. Ryo nodded and slid the ticket he gave him into his backpack.

"Thanks a lot! For everything!" he said as he ran out the door. The sky was clearer then the day before. He ran back down the path towards the area where he saw the battle with Don and the other trainer, Cody.

As he walked down the path, a flashing of lightning shot up to the sky from behind a large bush. "Rattata, use another Flame Wheel!" a girl yelled. Ryo pushed his way through the bush and saw a girl who looked younger then him and a large, purple rat that was surrounded by fire charging at a large yellow mouse with red cheeks.

"What the heck?" he muttered as he pulled Pokedex out and scanned both the Pokemon.

Rattata, the Mouse Pokemon. Rattata is cautious in the extreme. Even while asleep, it constantly listens by moving its ears around. It is not picky about where it lives - it makes a nest anywhere.

Pikachu, the Mouse Pokemon. Whenever Pikachu comes across something new, it blasts it with a jolt if electricity. It has small electric sacs on both its cheeks. If threatened it looses electric charges from the sacs.

The Pikachu kneeled down onto all four of its legs and began running at its full speed with a jolt of electricity surrounding it. The girl gritted her teeth and muttered, "Another Volt Tackle?" The two collided, creating a large explosion. "Rattata, use Hyper Fang!" the girl yelled. The rat ran towards the fallen Pikachu and bit it as hard as it could.

The girl grinned and pulled out Pokeball from her small, blue handbag and threw it. "Go Pokeball!" In a burst of red light, the Pokemon was sucked into the ball. It began to shake violently, until a minute later, it clicked. She ran to the ball and lifted the Pokeball and yelled, "Alright! We finally caught it!"

Ryo began to move closer until the girl's Rattata's ears raised and the two spun around to face him. The girl smiled at him and put two fingers on her lips and blew a kiss to him, then she ran off down the path two the bridge. "Wait!" Ryo yelled and ran after her.

By the time he got to the bridge, she was gone. "She looked too young to be a trainer," he said. He sighed, then shrugged and pulled his Pokegear out to check the time. 12:20. He gritted his teeth and began to run down the bridge as fast as he could.

He looked at the map on the Pokegear to find the Gym. He grinned. 'Good. Its not too far.' He followed the path, running past the Pokemon Center, and approached a large, blue building that was surrounded by people.

Ryo shoved his way through and entered. The entire building was packed full of people watching a battle in the center. He ran down the stairs and noticed that one of the trainers was Shannon, along with her Lickitung against a girl with red, spiky hair in a ponytail on the the side of her head. "Hey Ryo!" A voice called. He turned around a saw a boy in a blue T-shirt and blue rolled-up jeans and dirty blond hair.

Ryo raised an eyebrow. The boy laughed. "So you don't recognize me without my hat. Its me, Nick!"

Ryo studied his clothes and then remembered him clearly. "I thought you went to Cinnabar Island. Did you get the badge?"

Nick laughed and held up a flame-shaped badge. "Yup. It was pretty easy to get. The only problem now is I have no idea how to get my final badge. The final gym in Viridian City is closed. "

Ryo shrugged and sat beside him. "So, how long has the battle been going?"

"For a while. That girl, Shannon, is still on her first Pokemon, but the leader, Misty, is on her second."

Ryo grinned. He looked around for Misty's Pokemon, but it was no where on the visible. "Where is her Pokemon?"

"It dove under the water. All her Pokemon are Water-types, which puts Shannon's Lickitung in hot water, by the looks of it."

Ryo grinned. "Don't count on it. Its uses Lickitung's weight as its advantage. It might not have too much defense, but it can hold its ground for a while."

Nick grinned. "So I take it you battled her before."

Ryo nodded. "I managed to beat her with Dratini. He's grown quite a bit. He's learned some nice Dragon moves along with Water Gun and Thunder Wave."

Nick nodded as well and the two focused on the battle.

* * *

Shannon and Lickitung looked around at pool around them nervously, waiting for the Pokemon the was going to happen. The nervous Larvitar on her shoulder shook, clutching her should tightly.

"Alright, Seaking, come on out and show that Pokemon your Water Pulse!" Misty yelled. A large red, black, and white goldfish with large lips shot out from the pool and shot a ball of water towards Lickitung.

"Licktung, try and dodge it!" It looked around for a place to jump to, but the ball of water hit it in the stomach, knocking it into the pool. Shannon's hand curled into a fist. "Lickitung! Use Body Slam!"

Lickitung launched out of the water and into the air, then dropped down on top of Seaking, knocking it out. "Seaking, return!" Misty pulled out another Pokeball. "Go, Starmie!"

In a flash of light, a purple star-shaped Pokemon with another star on its back appeared. "What the heck?" Ryo asked. He pulled his Pokedex out and scanned Shannon's opponent.

Starmie, the Mysterious Pokemon. The evolved form of Staryu. This Pokemon has a geometric body. Because of its body, the locals suspect that it is an alien creature. Starmie's center section, its core, glows brightly in seven colors. Because of its luminous nature, this Pokemon has been given the nickname "the gem of the sea."

Shannon watched the Pokemon spin through the water until Misty yelled, "Starmie, use Water Gun!"

"Lickitung, use Protect!" A golden barrier surrounded Lickitung as Starmie shot a burst of water at it.

"Shannon's Lickitung can't take much more," Nick said. "It already battled its way through two of her Pokemon. She'll have to use that Larvitar of her's sooner or later." Ryo nodded.

"Lickitung, use another Body Slam!" Lickitung jumped into the air again and landed into the water, creating a huge wave. Starmie flew across the pool, creating a series of splashes.

"Starmie, use Recover!" Misty yelled. Starmie began to glow until all its wounds were gone. "Now, Starmie, finish it off with Dive!"

It dove into the pool. Lickitung looked around nervously for it. Shannon began to breathe heavily, until Starmie burst out of the pool and shot a blast of water at Lickitung, knocking it out. "Lickitung, return," Shannon said.

Ryo watched as she pulled out another Pokeball. "I didn't know she had three Pokemon," he muttered. Nick looked at him.

"I'm not too surprised. If she only had Larvitar left, she would be a goner. From what I've heard, Larvitar is a Rock and Ground type, which would give Misty's Pokemon a huge advantage."

"Go, Gyarados!" Shannon yelled as she threw her second Pokeball. In a flash, a large blue serpent appeared in the pool.

"When did she get a Pokemon like that?" Ryo asked as water was sprayed at the crowd. He pulled his Pokedex out again and scanned it.

Gyarados, the Atrocious Pokemon. The form of Magikarp. Once Gyarados goes on a rampage, its ferociously violent blood doesn't calm until it has burned everything down. There are records of the Pokemon's rampages lasting a whole month.

Ryo gulped and whispered, "This thing is just as bad as Mankey."

"Gyarados, use Dragon Rage!" Shannon yelled. Gyarados roared and shot a blast of green fire.

"Starmie, use Water Pulse!" Misty yelled. Starmie jumped out of the water and shot a ball of water to counter the Dragon Rage.

"Gyarados, use your Twister!" After that command, Ryo's eyes widened. Gyarados dove into the pool and began to spin, creating a large whirlpool.

"Starmie, get out of there!" Misty yelled, but her Pokemon got sucked in. By the time Gyarados stopped, Starmie was knocked out.

"The winner is Shannon and her Gyarados!" a woman yelled threw a megaphone. The audience yelled with excitement as Misty handed a blue, water drop-shaped badge to Shannon. Shannon smiled and bowed to Misty and as the two left the arena.

Ryo jumped up and ran towards the pool. "Hey wait!" Nick yelled, "You have to register if you want to battle Misty!"

Ryo couldn't hear what he said. He ran down a set of steps and entered a large aquarium. "Now, where is she?"

He stopped a looked into one of the tanks. Inside was a blue sea horse-like Pokemon. Ryo continued down the hall, until he noticed a girl with red, spiky hair putting three Pokeballs into a healing machine like what was at the Pokemon Centers. Misty.

He slowly walked closer, wondering how he should ask, until he stepped on a puddle of water, causing him to slip. One of his Pokeballs fell and in a flash of light, Mankey appeared, ready for battle. Misty spun around, put her hands on her hips, and yelled, "What are you doing down here? This area is off limits!"

Ryo stepped back, and returned Mankey into its Pokeball. "Well, I came down to ask you for a battle. I didn't know any other way."

Misty smiled. "Well, you could've just come in earlier and asked. You probably already know that I'm Misty, the Cerulean Gym Leader."

Ryo grinned. "I'm Ryo, from Viridian City."

"My Pokemon are healing now, so if you could just wait a second, then we can have our battle." Ryo shrugged lightly and he looked back into the aquarium tanks. "If you want, I can heal your Pokemon as well."

"It's alright. I haven't been in a battle in a while."

Misty turned around and placed her Pokeballs into a large machine like the one at the Pokemon Center. Moments later, Misty took the balls off and put them on her belt. "I'm ready anytime you are," she said with her hands on her hips again.

Ryo nodded and with Misty leading the way, the two walked up the stairs towards the arena. Ryo looked up at the audience. Most of them were leaving, but he noticed Nick was still seated, and Shannon stood by the railing with her Larvitar happily holding onto her shoulder.

"There has been a last minute challenge, folks!" Misty yelled, getting many of the audience's attention. "A battle against me and Ryo of Viridian City!" After that statement, the seats around the arena were packed with people.

"This will be a two on two Pokemon match," Misty said. "If you saw my last match, then you might know a few of the Pokemon I have. But you should know that I switch a few of them for each challenge."

"That's fine with me," Ryo said.

"Alright then. Let's begin!" The audience shouted with excitement as the two chose they're Pokemon. "I'll start with Staryu!" Misty yelled.

"I start with Dratini!" Ryo yelled and in a flash of light the blue serpent-like dragon appeared on his side of the pool and a golden star-like Pokemon with a small, red crystal in the center appeared on Misty's side of the pool.

"Staryu, use Rapid Spin!" Staryu's crystal began to glow and it began to spin quickly and it flew towards Dratini.

"Dratini, use Dragon Rage!" Dratini opened its mouth and shot a stream of its green flames, striking Staryu into the pool. "Dive into the water and strike it with a Thunder Wave."

Dratini did as he said and dove into the water, releasing a blast of blue electricity, paralyzing Staryu. Misty gave as smirk. "Staryu, use Recover!" Staryu shot out of the water, its whole entire body glowing and all its wounds vanished.

"Dratini, try Twister!" Dratini gave a cry from under the water and a whirlpool began to form in the center of the pool, sucking Staryu in. In a moment, after the whirlpool settled, Dratini swam back out, as well as the knocked out Staryu, with its red crystal beeping.

Nick grinned as he watched the match. "His Dratini has gotten a lot stronger since our battle," he said. Shannon's head perked up and she looked at him.

"You battled him?" She asked.

Nick nodded and said, "I was his first challenger, but then I didn't know he was just a beginning trainer."

"So you're the one who beat him. We had a battle yesterday. A Double Battle. He creamed me with Dratini."

Nick let out a small laugh and went back to watching the match.

"Staryu, return!" Misty said and she threw out her second Pokemon. "Go, Seel!" In another flash of light, a snow white sea lion with a small horn on the top of its head appeared in front of Misty.

Ryo looked at he curiously. "This can't be good," he muttered, then raised Dratini's Pokeball. "Sorry Dratini." Dratini gave him a worried look as the red light sucked Dratini back in. "Go, Mankey!"

Mankey appeared from its ball, barely balanced on one of the platforms, giving out a nervous cry. "Mankey, use Mega Punch!"

Mankey jumped off the platform with its glowing fist raised high, ready to punch Seel.

"Seel, dive under the water!" Misty yelled, and Seel did as it was commanded, dodging the attack.

Mankey fell into the pool, giving out a loud scream. "Mank!"

"Looks like your Mankey is a sitting duck, since it can't swim by the looks of it," Misty said. "Seel, use Ice Beam!" Seel shot out of the world and shot a beam of ice, creating a large ice platform. "I'd rather defeat you with a fair fight."

Ryo grinned. "Mankey, get on the platform and try to use Mega Kick!" Mankey kicked and splashed through the water until it got to the ice platform, then it turned to face Seel, then jumped with its foot glowing.

"Seel, use Water Pulse!" Seel shot a ball of water at Mankey, just as Mankey's kick came in contact, creating a large splash. As the water cleared up, the two Pokemon were floating on top of the water, knocked out.

"The winner is Ryo!" Misty yelled. Ryo grinned and returned Mankey into its ball. Misty walked up to him and raised a blue badge in the shape of a rain drop. "This is the Cascade Badge, to prove that you beat me. Oh, and here." She pulled out a blue disc, labeled TM 03. "This is my favorite TM, Water Pulse."

"Thanks a lot." Ryo said. He put the badge in his vest and put the TM in its case.

Misty smiled lightly. "The next gym is in Vermillion City, just south of Saffron City. If you haven't heard, Saffron has been taken over by Team Rocket, so you should use the secret pass in the field." Ryo nodded and began to exit the arena, as he began his way to Vermillion City.
